Now and Then: Lens-Artists Photo Challenge

Oh Hello Readers,

Lens-Artist photo challenge theme is “now and then”

First photo for this theme: “NOW” these skis make a tree, but back “THEN” they used to be used for skiing the slopes

___

Next, “NOW” these canoes make a sculpture, but back “THEN” they were used to glide along water.

_____

“NOW” this car sits on a corner collecting stickers, but back “THEN” it used to hug corners and cruise the roadways.

Song for Today: Feel No Pain

This Sade song, from 1992, has a theme that applies to NOW as well as back then:

Help them to strive
Help them to move on
Help them to have some future
Help them to live long
Help them to live life
Help them to smile
Don’t let them

        stay home

        and

      listen to the blues

  1. Lots of re-used useless items but what after the sculpture no longer has relevance? Can inanimate items have a Buddhist ideal of reincarnation? How far can things be reduced to reach the human level of ashes or dust where nature will dispose of the waste to rebuild as something our world would welcome even if the apocalypse arrived, Thankfully the sensible and educated thinking people of the USA found out what a dickhead the small handed orange buffoon was thus delaying the demise that could make our world look like Mars, perhaps where the first Earth inhabitants came from

  2. A brilliant take on the theme. Marvellous Ringo story. Jackie signed up for a Tesco card. On the phone she spelt out Knight and received one addressed to Mrs Nite. She rang again and stated Knight with a K. She is now Mrs Nike.

    1. That story about the name spelling is great – still smiling – and it reminded me of “nikification” or the term in intro to business about outsourcing work that is non-strategic – I guess Nike started that to hire contractors and save money on work that did not require knowledge so the specialized workers could have more time for the other (more strategic) work projects
Anyhow – nite with a k – lol – and for right in with the coffee cup –

    1. Thank you so much for that lovely comment Norah – it is sometimes hard for me to post if I had a few weeks off and this one unfolded for the LAPC theme last night and I am so glad it came out 🍁🍂😊

  3. Hi Yvette, just briefly come up for air after submitting my first assignment of my final uni module, (blogging’s having to take a back seat for much of this academic year – this is the biggie!), and just had to say I love this post. That ski tree is amazing, and I used to listen to Sade when I was younger all the time. Nice reminder. Hope you’re well and keeping busy. All the best, 🙂

    1. Hi Ali – sending good vibes your way with your studies – just a reminder that when you are done it will be an “accomplishment that keeps on giving”
And thanks for the visit and looking forward to catching up soon

    1. Well it was really fun when Linda sent me those images (coffee cup and the Beatles people) because it was after my street shit post when the lady walking across the street reminded you of the beauties cover! It was quite good timing – I just could nkt get back here to mention it until now!
And hope the rest of your thanksgiving is great –

    1. Hi Tina – well this post literally fell in my lap.
The last two images (Beatles folks in car and coffee cup) came in a post from Linda in early nivheber and I saved them to use later – and to show folks that came to mind with them! So they were waiting .
Then – the ski tree and canoe sculpture I grabbed for maybe using on a sculpture Saturday post – both are from New York — ski tree in Ellicotteville, NY and canoe sculpture from Buffalo, NY

And the other pics in my folder –
Thanks for the nice comment and wishing you a great rest of thanksgiving holiday 🍂🍁

  5. Nice to see you back Yvette. I like those back-in-the-day items that have now become sculptures. I really liked the tale of the Ringo photo book. How exciting is that for that group of friends?

      1. I think so too – if only they could flash back and say “see, I told you so!” to their friends. Very fun stuff – it reminds me of a post I saw somewhere where a lot of siblings from different families posed just like they did many year ago … they showed their “young” picture and current picture side by side.
And, in all cases, they matched the clothes almost identically.

        1. Hi Linda – my husband’s cousin did a recreation photo – where she and her spouse and two children were standing at their front door – “a hillside, customized sante fe kind of house” they sold about 25 years later – and they wore similar clothes and posed ins imager ways – it was so cool. And di you see the one where Bill Gates did a couple of these – I really like this 2016 one:

  6. What a brilliant post ! The photos are spot on for the theme and the Ringo story was heart warming. I can imagine the delight of the students when it was clicked first and later recreating the photo down to the same detail. Fantastic!

    1. It does have that sci-fi video e – and I do wonder why they went with that shape – wonder if it was designed and assembled or artistic adventure and build it and see ….?

    1. It would be fun to find a photo of mask-wearers – and that was nice to read (that it is not the first time) because it gives us hope that we might not always be wearing masks in the future (fingers crossed)
