And to share with another blogger, while on the topic of driftwood, I wanted to share this creative lamp. I am not a big fan of driftwood in the house, but I appreciate the beauty and soft, natural feel it can bring into a room. What about you – do you like driftwood pieces in the home?

In closing, it is hard to see turtles and not think of one of my blog friends, Patsy the artist from Patsy’s Creative Corner.

I met Patsy through Sherri’s blog and she has a wide array of interests, but those who know her will agree – turtles are her main passion.

  1. The turtles I love (ever since my trip to Florida) but otherwise the I’ve got a couple of pieces of driftwood picked by myself and ones used as a bowl. The lamp is just a bit too much for my likes!

    1. Hi Annika – and the bowl sounds really nice – natural and organic – and I have some wood serving dishes but they were made by crafters – not really driftwood.
      and after reading your comment I looked back at the lamp and the word “bust” came to my mind….
      but maybe someone will love it.
      It could look good in the right home – maybe beachside with a white couch and teal accessories…?

      1. Hi! Love the turtle too, and the driftwood is interesting. I agree with you though, in the right setting it would look amazing. Seeing handpainted sea shells for sale has given me some ideas for Christmas gifts. It’s handy living by the sea!

  2. In 1950’s father and friend would head down to upper keys from Miami and bring back drift wood. Some for lamps, some for wall. Wish we still had some. Used a single piece though.

    1. well I bet a single piece would have a much different look (and maybe more to my liking) and do you have any photos of any?
      also – were the Keys way different back then? I heard there are thousands of homeless people down in the keys now – still recovering from the hurricane

  4. I like driftwood, but I would prefer a single piece rather than a gathering. My mother, my brother and I worked for a long time to dislodge a hunk of driftwood out the sand on the shore of Lake Erie when I was about 10. She put it on a room divider and my cousin decorated it with artificial flowers for every season.

    1. Hi D – I think that seems to the majority vibe here – single pieces rather than all the little ones assembled.

      And Ihad a terrible joke come to mind when I heard you spent that much time dislodging a piece of wood from Lake Erie – it was something like “So is that why you have that twitch” – or something to that effect because for years there were those jokes that Lake Erie was just so polluted that swimming in it was – well – could leave you twitching – it is a joke of course.

      and imagining the driftwood dislodging then reminded me as to how beautiful parts of Lake Erie can really be.
      we used to go to Angola State park – but even little ol’ Woodlawn Beach had some charm – well – and then you look up and see miles of Bethlehem Steel plants

      1. You could make that joke, we visited Lake Erie in the really bad years. Dislodging was hard simply because the waves kept filling the hole in. I’ve been back to the lake area we used to visit. Much prettier now.

    1. Thanks Miss G – the turtle has that hug Christmas vibe and I know some are so tired of ornaments – but sometimes we “gotta post what we gotta post”

  6. I do love driftwood but i agree with you about not wanting to keep it at home. Who knows what might come out of it right? 😀 But I did succumb and buy a bit of cured driftwood.

  7. I didn’t know that driftwood can be a part of art ! Although, single piece wood might look a bit nicer ! …..I love the tortoise 😀

    1. yes- I like the look but sure of the fit either –
      although don’t some people use driftwood pieces in area far from the beach – as a way to bring some of the “sea” vibe with them?
      hmmm
