During May 2018, we were back at Richmond’s largest art museum (VMFA) and so to join in with the Seasons Challenge for May, I am again going with the Photo Option. Last month’s Seasons post (here) also had a few images from April’s visit.
I like the red and green with splash of yellow (and splash of people)- and the foreground pulling ya in….I like the sidewalks here (and the people)
The two benches and the fountains caught my eye here – and of course the large head art down below – from here you can see how thing this optical-illusion piece is….
A sampling of the interior art:
I took this picture to grab the sign: “Wine, Espresso, Ice Cream” – because that is quite the trio??? Later, I found the feet to be interesting here – like the sunlight on the foot of the woman to the left – the cast to the right, and just other little tidbits.

These next three photos are special to me for personal preferences (mood and composition).
For some reason, I sometimes like the mood of people admiring art (many of us do). In this shot, the little space between the arms seems to play with the light of the walls and the dark/light parts of the paintings. I also like the man’s posture and the various sizes of the art works. Further, the classic wood floors and plain, high walls are so museum-like.The lines of the wood, the trio in the center, the cross, the sun, the sky, the tree line, the bit of light lower left, and the little verticals….The two men in teal seem to help frame part of this photo – with the lady in center. The old building and the lush grass with the tree surround added interest. It has been a while since I played with the pyramid in a photo and it seemed to fit here…..
Okay, that is all for the photos in my Seasons post.
Thanks for viewing.
Oh, and I made a short video to share too:
Go HEREto join the Seasons Challenge or to see more entries.
Thanks Su, and the challenge for me was deciding how much inside art to show (yawn) – and so maybe another time I will shore more of that – and for this post I went with the May outdoors (much different weather over here… 🙂 )
I loved those head sculptures that messed with perspective. There’s an artist in NZ called Terry Stringer who does work very like that. I’m a huge fan of it!!!
Amuse! Yes, it does, Yvette 🙂 🙂 I especially like your black and white composition. I like an almost empty gallery. Interesting place. Have a good Summer!
Lovely, lovely, lovely, Yvette. So nice of you to take us to the museum again – everyone enjoying themselves in the sun. That first of your 3 mood shots is especially striking
and I will be back later to chime in on your “favorites” post – it was color rich and nice – but I am having issues logging in on that site – hmmm – I will try again later
After reading other people’s comments, I had to go back and look at all the photos again. Interesting how many people chose the mood shots as their favourite. Mine was actually the very first one. I like the way the photo pulls the eyes upwards towards that splash of red (art instalment in the water?) at the top. The serenity of the water contrasting with the busy-ness of all the people on the sidewalk.
well thanks so much for coming back (that is cool)
and your comment was rich – oh and the red glass is something Richmond, VA is quite proud of.
Here is the scoop:
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts board of trustees has voted to acquire the work Red Reeds, by Dale Chihuly which was created for the Anne Cobb Gottwald reflecting pool outside the Best Café. The internationally renowned artist created more than 100 red glass reeds as part of the Chihuly at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts exhibition, October 20, 2012- February 10, 2013. Since that time, Red Reeds has been on loan to VMFA.
This dynamic, site-specific work by Dale Chihuly was an instant success at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts,” said Alex Nyerges, director.”It is beautiful in every season, and is a wonderful addition to the Lora Robins Sculpture Garden. I am especially pleased that this is the first site-specific outdoor installation by Chihuly to be acquired by an art museum.”
“Ruffled feathers and endless squawking over a minor difficulty is typical of a crow’s life. I lean back on the counter and realize that could be my line….”
I like the three”mood” pictures. I also like it when we find interesting bits in pictures taken for other reasons.
