Thursday Doors: Missing Stairs & Food Truck at Armadillo Festival in AR

Time to join in with Thursday Doors.

***

We went to the Armadillo Festival in Hamburg, AR and enjoyed excellent music and pretty good food. There were rides and games too. It rained off and on the night we were there (5/1) but it was fun with good smells in the air and good community.

At the armadillo festival, they had a row of food trucks with a lot of options. This was the food truck my husband decided to get his food from –  In the photo above, I like the mood with the US flag, the smoke, the sky, the people, etc.
My hubs got Brisket nachos (back) and gave them an A! (Even though he hardly ever eats chips or tortillas). I had loaded fries, also with brisket, but from a different food truck and the meat was lighter – and we both gave mine a B+. It was good but not to brag, I like our food at home much better and we do not have to worry about the bad seed oils.  What would you get the brisket nachos or the loaded fries?

Close up of the doors and fun name…. “Slap your grandma good food” – this was a new phrase for me –

  1. Interesting outing Yvette. That first place needs some TLC but the food truck looks cheerful. I like to eat out, but always prefer home cooked meals. That bench would fit in with Jude’s bench challenge

    1. Oh I forgot she was doing the bench challenge again for the 10-year anniversary – I will try to join in later this month – thanks for the reminder – and omg – that first photo shows such an eye sore of a place…. yuck
and cheers to eating at home –

    1. Hello, thanks for the comment and you mom might have liked the foam armadillo hats.
Oh and the brisket was top notch – which matters – and it seems another popular food item at the festival was the crawfish. I have a second post coming to show a little bit of that.

    1. Hello, well no worries if neither appealed to you – I do wonder what you would have enjoyed? there was a lot os eafood and the crawfish is sold by the bag

        1. Oh – so no battered for you.
When I was a little girl – beer-battered fish fry meals were all the rage every Friday – and I think some battered food can be good – but I can see why you might not like any

  2. Neither meal appealed sorry, too American for me. I find slap you grandma a bit offensive I hope it means something good. We have some Aussie saying that mean good but people from OS give a 😲
I like the Armadillo bench. That first photo looks like the remains of a fire or DYI disaster 😂
    Where or what is AR?

    1. Hi Bushboy – and sorry I did not spell it out the first time – AR stands for Arkansas – my step daughter and her family moved to the Little Rock area two years ago and so that has led to a lot of Arkansas (or AR) exploring and it sure is a wonderful place (and it is called the nature state with a lot of birds – so I think you would like it – even though likely no comparison to the BUSH).
And I agree with you about the “slap your grandma” phrase – and we did not even notice it until the photos were uploaded. The cursive is not good signage – and also – it was raining off the entire time so was not paying attention I guess –
and I have since learned it is likely a term from the state of Louisiana – and
found this info from urban dictionary:

What does slap your grandma mean?

A phrase that means that something is so good that you are awestruck to the point you might even be silly or disorientated – that you might mistakenly slap your grandmother. If someone takes this literally it could be offensive or cause an awkward situation and at worst cause your entire family could have issues.

Mom: “Everybody, Jimmy was nice enough to cook us this crawfish!”
Jimmy: “Thanks ya’ll, Mom, why don’t you have the first bite.”
Mom: (eating it) “WOW I’ll be darned if this isn’t the greatest turkey I’ve ever had! Slap your grandma!”

      1. I am slowly learning the short forms of US states. I guess it is second nature to you.
Thanks for looking up that weird saying. I agree about the signage too.

  3. The stairs gone kaput is dangerous if you are in a hurry to get out of the building. I believe those loaded fries are calling out across the miles to me. 🙂

  4. Great doors, Yvette, although I hope that first one is roped off on the inside. Those two would be a hard choice for me, but I think I’d go with the nachos. I do like visiting food trucks now and then, and a festival sounds like a good place.

Thank you so much for alerting your readers to the TDWC. The challenge is underway, and several entries have been crafted. There’s plenty of room for more (unlimited) and there are over 35 doors to choose for your inspiration. I hope to see an entry from you. I always enjoy your writing.

    1. Hi Dan, nachos it is!
I have not been over the challenge yet – but to hear that there are 35 doors is exciting because with that many – it has to fuel inspiration.
Also, I agree with you about the safety factor with that first building – and wonder if the entire building is shut down while they do repairs.
Hope your Saturday is going well

  6. Interesting set of doors, Y. I agree with what Norah said, some inviting and some not so. But doors nonetheless. Lovely to hear you got to go to a festival. It sounded like a lot of fun. The nachos and loaded fries looked so good… I don’t know if I can’t pick one over the other honestly. Would want to try both. They do look like big portions. Thanks for showing us around 🙂

    1. Thanks for joining me with this post, Mabel
And the portions were just right – but not too big at all and in fact, if we were really hungry they might not have been enough (smile).
Also, the door with only the top showing, really did have that stay the heck out vibe, but I also took that photo because when I see that sliver of a door top, it reminds me of the old TV show, Home Improvement, and how the Wilson character only showed his forehead and eyes – a sliver of him –

      Like

      1. Well then, it seemed you were hungry and finished all the food 🙂 I remember Home Improvement. That was so long ago but one of the more notable sitcoms, and it seems in sync with the character showing a sliver of himself over the fence 🙂

        1. Thanks for coming back Mabel – I never really watched Home Improvement when it was popular -but saw some reruns when it was in syndication and really thought it was a fun show!

    1. Hi K, that food truck does look like a caboose – and has that train vibe – and they sure had good food too – because no sense in having a nice truck if the food is bad – ha

  7. Those doors to nowhere are depressing. The food looks good, but “Slap your grandma good food”. Nope. Can’t get behind that one.

    1. Hi – Yes, that phrase is not for everyone – and I had to use the urban dictionary to learn more about it.
Thanks for your visit and comment

  8. A great selection of doors, Yvette, and the nachos look good because I haven’t had those in years. We go into San Francisco at the Presidio and they have great food trucks, all kinds of good food. I love the bench and after reading your prior comment, I understand what Grandma’s quote means. 🙂

    1. Thanks for the comment Lauren, and the Presidio food trucks sound enjoyable. The two times we were in Austin, I was disappointed with the food trucks we got food from – but were Mexican cuisine – and hoping the next time it is better

  9. The food truck with the American flag at sunset was wonderful. I loved the stone armadillo bench.

  10. I prefer home meals over food trucks usually. We used to have a good one where we worked, but I’ve been to some disappointing ones, too. 🙂
