Thursday Doors: Stone cold… (Rainbow song…)

Time to join in with Thursday Doors, hosted by Dan Antion.

Today’s door photos have a cold vibe.

Very different cold vibes with these doors, but can you feel the chill?

The coldness of the doors reminded me of a song that came back our way this year.

Earlier this year, we were enduring an ice storm. Shivering, we put on down jackets for a quick walk, and I said, “It’s SOOOO colddddd” – which instantly reminded me of the Rainbow song, Stone Cold.  That led to us singing the song…. bits and pieces came flooding back – and it was quite fun.

Stone coldddddd

You put me in the deep freeze (Stone cold)

Love was here and gone
Like a thief in the night

It had been decades since we heard it and always amazes me how these songs stay with us!

Do you know the Stone Cold song?

Do you think Rainbow sound a little like the band Foreigner? Our reminiscing reminded me of Clive’s musical posts… and how fun it can be to go down memory lane and sometimes get behind the music.

Have you had a song flashback lately?

  1. Nice doors, and good memories. You make the connection of Rainbow’s sound with Foreigner: Cold As Ice?

And thank you for the plug 👍

    1. Clive, yes! Cold as Ice was clever to mention. Also, I used AI to get some more behind the connection between the band Rainbow and Foreigner musical similarities, and they noted the post-Dio era of Rainbow. After Ronnie James Dio left Rainbow, the band’s sound shifted towards a more commercial and pop-oriented direction. This change is often compared to the sound of Foreigner’s melodic and accessible rock songs

      1. He does know the song. Knows pretty much all of Rainbow’s songs he said. He really likes Rithie Blackmore and we both love Blackmore’s Night!! A totally different genre of music but so great!

  2. Ritchie Blackmore, the guitarist from Deep Purple, was in Rainbow, and I think it was actually called Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow at times. More recently he has been doing Renaissance style music with his wife.

    1. Hi Dawn, I would not identify as a head banger – but I guess it would depend on how it is defined – however, I sure know a lot of music that I grew up with and it is fun when a song comes to mind from a phrase….

  3. I agree Yvette – not very inviting doors and even a wreath would not beckon you to go in. I have not heard that song before but I’m glad you had a little fun with remembering that song, albeit in bits and pieces. I’ve not had any song flashbacks lately. I don’t listen to the radio as much as I used to, but it is always fun if I turn on an “oldies station” and can remember all the words, all these years later. Is there anyone from a certain era – ahem, who can’t sing a theatrical rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody”? 🙂

    1. Hi Linda, sorry for the late reply (and I am missing your blog posts so much – I will be over to catch up soon) and you are so right about the many many theatrical renditions of “Bohemian Rhapsody” – and the many smooth versions of knockin’ on heaven’s door! Oh – and Linda Ronstadt songs remind me of you

      1. Whenever I turn on the radio and an Eagles song or Linda Ronstadt song is playing, I am happy as I usually know all the words … mellow music. “Bohemian Rhapsody” – we even knew know the pauses – lots of fun. No problem re: the late response at all!

        1. Linda, I am shocked at how many song lyrics I know. Recently, a Bob Seger song came on and all the words came out of me – and it was not even one I thought I would know?? For example, my friends and I loved Sunspot – but I think the one that came on was Night moves or Main street?? every lyric – but it is likely because for a long while – we mostly had radio (and some had 8tracks and cassettes – then CDs – then the mp3 players) but there was something special about radio days

          1. Bob Seger is a hometown boy (Ann Arbor, Michigan), so whenever he had concerts, he sold out for many days in a row. I saw him once at Cobo hall and had the album “Live Bullet” which was recorded right here in concerts at Cobo Hall. I remember those songs you mention and probably know them by heart as well – if we didn’t have the songs on albums or cassettes/8 tracks, they played almost every song on the radio repeatedly. I never had many CDs, mostly albums/cassettes/8 tracks.

  4. Not very welcoming doors although the beautiful lavender colour door could be with a few additions anyways I didn’t know the song but love it! Now on my songlist xx

  5. You have taken the prompt further. I liked Stone Cold, but haven’t heard them before. There have been a number of recent references to Simon and Garfunkel’s The Sound of Silence which took me back

    1. Hi Ally, I had to go back and look at the photo and you are SO right – the many shapes do make it feel imbalanced. Also, the house might actually be sitting on a slant – because it is in an area that homes have foundation issues. Also, the peeling paint and worn out areas add to the wonkiness …..hmmmm
