Hello Readers, I hope everyone is doing well.
The Lens-Artists Photo Challenge this week has the theme of ‘Tourist Attractions, Near and Far’.
We recently took a nice drive from Little Rock to dine at Hoots BBQ
McGehee is located approximately 100 miles southeast of Little Rock, Arkansas and it is a local tourist attraction in a rural part of Arkansas.

Guess which meal was mine?
Answer: The fried catfish on the right.
The first time I had fried catfish here in Arkansas was last summer. I was hesitant to eat it because growing up, family members used catfish as bait! Anyhow, I discovered that I like fried catfish every now and then.
My husband got the BBQ meat sampler platter, and liked it okay, but he said he next time he would just get a single meat.

Hi Yvette, it’s lovely to see you. I enjoyed your pictures. I guessed the fish meal was yours but didn’t know it was catfish.

This is a very different post to what others have done, it is fantastic Yvette. 10 or 10 for showing iniative. Wonderful.
We don’t have anything like that in Australia, well as far as I know.

Welcome back! I guessed the meal on the left …the beefy one was yours. I never have liked catfish. Catfish and Hot Dogs are on the top of my list of foods I don’t like and believe me there aren’t many I don’t like! 😂
We used to drive an hour for BBQ when we lived in CA. Now we just drive 10 minutes or so to get some good bbq brisket when the mood for it strikes us. Most the time we just grill other meats at home these days. Last night in fact I made burgers and He-Man grilled them. Yummy!

Hello – thanks for sharing and how nice to be able to drive ten minutes for quality BBQ
because it is much better than the hour’s drive.
And we prefer to grill our meats or make things at home (my husband got a pellet grill last year and makes this huge slabs of beed that take almost a day to cook) but we are worried about the “industrial seed oils” that some places use – and some of those oils are like eating motor oil –
and cheers to the He0man for grilling up those burgers – mmmmmmm

Welcome back, Yvette, great to see you again! Love the photos, as always. I’ve never tried catfish – I don’t think it’s available over here. Interesting choice to eat bait, though 😉

Hi Clive,
It really feels so good to be back!
The blog is such a support system for me and a piece of me is a little empty if I spend too much time away – but it sure is hard getting back into a groove again – 🙂
and you might not have catfish there, but I heard your “fish and chips” make a great fish supper?

Hi Yvette,
I’m glad you feel that way, and hope this means we’ll be seeing many more of your posts – I’ve missed them! But take it at a speed that suits you.
Yes, fish and chips has long been a national dish here, though with stocks depleting it’s getting ever more expensive!

Hi Yvette! Growing up we ate catfish all the time! I didn’t like it but the it wasn’t deep fried!

Hi JT – I bet not having it fried made a difference
And I heard there are extra good oils in catfish – compared to some other fish – and so maybe that early eating helped your brain and made you so smart!

Everything is better fried!

And my only complaint is the common use of “motor oil” these days – even though they call the oils by fun names, the industrial seed oils are everywhere and so for that reason we do not each much fried food out at places

It’s wonderful to see you again, Yvette. I’m not a fan of catfish, but BBQ – that’s a different story. I do understand the sampler experience. If you end up liking one meat the most, you wish you had a plate full. Which would he have preferred?

Hi Dan – I actually thought of Thursday doors when we grabbed that second photo of us by the wall of doors (not sure if you noticed it) but I have other doors to share later this month.
And I am not sure what I would have preferred because some BBQ is too saucy or too charred for me.
I love “burnt ends” – what about you = what is a top BBQ item for you?

Burnt ends and brisket is my usual BBQ order. Whenever I see that someone captured a door, I’m tempted to urge them to share it on Thursday, but that seems selfish. But yes, I did notice the door.

Hi Tina, it was fun exploring a little bit – and things are well – I just got out of the habit of blogging and need to be more intentional about making it happen.
I had a fourth of July post planned but put it off – and well – I need to get into a groove
hope you are well

Hi Yvette! Welcome back and I love your post. Such wonderful photos you’ve shared! I Love catfish when deep fried, but then most anything tastes good that way. It looks like you had a nice time. I can’t believe it’s summer! This year is flying by! ❤️🤩

Hi Diana, I recently saw a trailer full of horses being pulled to somewhere fun – and I thought of you.
And I know – the year is halfway gone – it is flying by.
And now that you mention it, I am not sure I would want to eat catfish any other way but fried…. it is not like the “steakier” kind of fish that others eat – I am just not that into fish as I prefer red meat.

Hi – I am glad you mentioned the hushpuppies because my meal came with two and they were unique – kind of a cornbread crunchy mix.
And nice to see you here – be over soon

Hi back at you Yvette. Now I have a real hankering for catfish and hush puppies. I really like them. Sometimes they serve red beans and rice too if it’s a Cajun restaurant. Okay – see you soon.

It is lovely to see you back here, Y. That sounded like a lovely night out having BBQ, like a very nice date night with your husband 😊 Looked like you had quite a feast. It all looks delicious, and glad you enjoyed the catfish. I haven’t had catfish…at least I don’t think I’ve had. I do like a good hearty meal like the one you had every now and then, especially if it’s quality meat and ingredients, and cooked well. Hope all has been well with you.

Hi Mabel, thanks for your nice comment. I did not eat very much that night – it was hot and all that – but had a nice meal – but I agree with you about quality meat – although my red meat I prefer not to be cooked well done… but still cooked well.
It was so nice to see your comment today
