Avian Friends BOOK REVIEW by Lauren Scott @Baydreamer

Hello readers,

While I was on a blog break at the end of 2022, my book Avian Friends was featured over on  Baydreamer website. It was exciting to discover the review and a huge thank you to author Lauren Scott for the time she invested in reading and reviewing.

Here is a snippet of the Baydreamer review:

“Following each poem, the author (Yvette Prior) includes her inspiration behind her poetic words…delivering personal reflections of relating her aviary findings to the lives of human emotions and well-being. Yvette inserts tidbits of wisdom for living a balanced life. These snippets into Yvette’s mind are as entertaining and as evocative as her poetry. Some of my favorite poems are “What Matters”, which speaks about materialism and how some people use possessions as their barometer for success, and “Summer Sun”, which is a cute poem that tells us…”

In Lauren’s review, she noted that she liked the “personal reflections” that came after each poem as much as the poems. I wanted to mention something about that because those extra reflections were not planned. The book was actually done and all ready to go – but as I went back into the manuscript, I sensed it needed a little more. The extra time was worth it. So keep that in mind with whatever you are working on – whether it is a book, work of art, a hobby, or something with work. Sometimes the bit of “extra” we add might just be the special spice or flavor that is needed and the extra time and effort will be worth it.

Lauren, thanks for taking the time to read Avian Friends and post about it.

In closing, you might want to check out Annika Perry’s recent post (here) with a detailed review of Lauren Scott’s More Than Coffee book. Isn’t that a great title for a book? Well More Than Coffee seems a fitting title for a book that includes seasoned “wreflective celebrations of life” about a myriad of topics.  I will follow up with my take on her book soon.

Also, a reminder that the 2023 #Dickenschallenge just started – more information is HERE

Wishing you a great day!

    1. Hi Lauren, I am sure most authors can relate to this – but it is so edifying to see your book being highlighted and shared – and I used to feel a little uncomfortable sharing certain book proms – but now I seee them as a celebration of one’s work and not bragging (if that makes sense)
and I have just realized that your book, More than Coffee, will be a great thing to read while diving into charles dickens this month – keep you posted

      1. I understand how you feel, Yvette. I’ve had my blog for about 11 years now, and I didn’t share books or write reviews in those early years. I was pretty green in this whole new world. 🙂 But as I made friends and began reading other indie authors’ books, I thought of that saying, “sharing is caring.” It’s about authors helping authors. And I truly enjoyed your book, so I wanted to write a review to help you out, to spread the word. I am also humbled by the wonderful reviews my book (and books) has received that it motivates me to keep writing, knowing my poetry or stories touch others in significant ways. Anyway, I hope you enjoy More than Coffee as much as Annika has and other friends. Thank you!

    1. Hi tierney, I have a handful of books published (and about 100 in drafts or ideas form – seriously – it is kind of pathetic) and I must share with you that this book, Avian Friends, wrote itself – one day – I was looking thru all my journals and I realized I had enough bird-themed poems to have a collection – and then when my nephew died (of an OD) in 2017 – the backyard birds brought me comfort during the initial grief (baby birds were in the gutter and their sounds of life pierced the grief) and so anyhow, this book is also filed under grief resources – I will email you a copy – because it might give you ideas – I mean – maybe the Horizontal Journaling has some book material???

    1. Hi BB – the book was published in 2017 and it is very special project because it unfolded naturally (and now you know I am going to remind you that you need to keep thinking about your book, bb)

  1. I enjoyed What Matters, and the reflection really adds a lot. Great choice adding those reflections. Wonderful to have feedback like that.

    1. Dan- it really is nice geting to know you a bit more – and your comment here
      was so nice
I must add that m poetry is not everyone’s “cup of tea” – because it is often rhyming lines and free form
without a lot of complexity – but that is the very thing that some other folks do seem to enjoy it.
I actually have a few more “reviews” to share and will try and space them out over the next handful of weeks –

and I hope you and your wife and family enjoy the weekend – 🙂

      1. Thank you, Yvette. I’m someone who has trouble connecting to poetry, but in small portions, I’m pretty good with it.

Have a wonderful weekend with your family, too.
