I LOVE the smile sign. I need that on a business card that I could hand out to all the sad sacks + pretentious people I meet along the way.

What wonderful street photos, Yvette, and I love the last one with the smile sign. I smiled! I saw the trash photo in the comments – that’s too bad. We have a lot of that in Portland too. Homelessness has exploded and the problems multiply.

Hi Diana – I have heard about Portland and some of the homeless issues
☹️We have our share here as well – but I think the trash in the photo was from donation bags that were rejected – the Mexican diner is across the street from a thrift store and they don’t accept drop offs – they used to (but in this crazy world of excess – thrift stores sure are not needy – and so I think their were bags lined up and one was torn into.
And thanks for checking out this post!

Our temps here is Portland are mild in the winter, which makes it possible to live on the streets. Portland has done a commendable job of finding housing for people, but there’s still much work ahead. Trash on the streets is one of the side effects.

great assortment of photos! My kiddos and I love the last shot with the smile sign.
This is funny but I think I have the same slippers (in a blue color) the girl is wearing at the cafe table. Hers is pink. It’s a popular foam Amazon buy. lol

Thanks for the comment and bringing me a smile with it
Also – interesting about the shoes and how they are popular on Amazon right now! And it reminded me that one value of steer photography is capturing (and maybe preserving) small tidbits like this. Even tho there might be less need for photos in our image/saturated culture (where everyone clicks away ) it is still fun for me to grab a mood –
😊Side note the only reason I really took a photo of those diners – it was because that place had been closed a long time (even before pandemic) and it was signs of life to see folks eating outside💛
Then later on I realized the diners had some fun drinks and outfits (and now shoes ! )
Thanks Esther

The pink shoes instantly grabbed my attention and when I realized I have the same pair, that made me happy! Those slippers were on the news for comfort. Power of advertising and Amazon…lol
It is nice to see people dining outside, especially at a restaurant that’s been closed before…love the casual ambiance of it. It’s going to get cold soon, so that’ll be a rare sighting.

Hi / it will be less of a sighting to see diners outside in winter – but here in Richmond a lot of places still leave their patio open in winter (it might not be fully set up but they let customers sit outside)
And for a few years this was important because when we first moved to VA in 2003 – I was shocked and disappointed that restaurants still allowed indoor smoking (and it used to make my throat close up)! I guess Virginia was one of the last states to ban indoor smoking! And so we are on many patios for the fresh air!
But now we hardly dine out because of the industrial seed oils often used.

Fun pictures Yvette. It’s been years since I worked in Downtown Detroit where there were street artists all the time. They’d pull up a stool, open their guitar case for coins and start strumming along. The pink drink and the pink shoes. 🙂 I like the sign and it made me smile.

You’re welcome Yvette – it looked so Summery in those street shots didn’t it?
Yes SE Michigan is where I mark my miles – you are correct. I don’t follow sports by watching them, but more like by osmosis. The five-minute sports reports are on my all-news station twice an hour, so I often have the news on and just hear the sports reports. Everyone here in the area is happy as the Lions beat the Commanders – last year it took until December for the first win! The Lions are feeling puffed out with importance as they were featured on the HBO show “Hard Knocks” which showed them through the rigors of training camp with their coach, who is in his 2nd year. The Lions are rebuilding the team and also in rebuild mode are the Tigers (baseball team), Pistons (basketball) and Wings (hockey). People lament that we have nothing to watch and no wins.
