Here Comes the Sun….(Lens Artists Photo Challenge, 21AUG2022)

Hello Readers. The Photo Challenge this week is Here Comes the Sun…

Let’s start with this photo from a local walk. We walked by this area many times and on one of the walks we were welcomed by the sun….

Here comes the sun with all that Virginia green.

That local photo reminded me of a painting I saw down in Florida. It is one of the those mass-produced colorful art canvasses. This inexpensive art is not everyone’s preference but it sure works for some folks.

I like the sun setting and also all that foreground green!

Next up, at our local art museum I captured the sun in back of the red Chihuly Reeds.

It was a cold day in winter, the patio was closed, the trees were bare – yet the sun warmed the mood.

Inside the museum, there was this painting from William Bradford, Scotch Whaler Working Through Ice. But if you notice the sun’s prominence in the painting there is a huge message here. Perhaps the trials in this world can feel like working through ice…. yet the sun (son) is there warming us, supporting us, and cheering us on.


While in the topic of art in this post with a sun theme, it reminded me of Jean Claude Roy art that was on display down in St Augustine, FL (2021). The hubs and I were celebrating our anniversary and FL was plan D for that year. The trip was “so-so” but had a few highlights. And one highlight was the night of our anniversary. After I finished teaching an online class (sigh – should have taken off that night) but after that – we went to three places for dinner, dessert, and live music. It was all unplanned as we got dressed and hit the town! The live music was the biggest gift because it was the first venue we attended since COVID started. It was an infusion of refreshment.
 Our second stop led us to an eatery where we had this entire dining room alone. We were surrounded by all this art and the light music and quiet room allowed us to conversate and celebrate. 
Anyhow, the reason I am mentioning this now is because when we chatted with the server, she told us more about the art. I guess Jean Claude Roy is noted for his unique “suns” – and this little thumbnail image can show you his unique sun shape. I guess it is part of his signature style (even though it didn’t appeal to our style).

  3. We had the strangest anniversary this year, returning a Nintendo Switch for repair and taking a small boy to Maths City, but no. 33 wasn’t wasted. I rather like that vivid artwork, Yvette, and the lovely light through the trees. Have a great week 🤗💕

      1. It just had to be, didn’t it! That video is gorgeous, beautiful animation. Been up just under three years and has nearly 105m views: proof that a great band and great songs never fade away 😊

        2. It’s more than fifty years since the band broke up, two have since died, but their music still gets played. That’s quite some legacy.

    1. Thanks so much Anne! And at the time of the anniversary – I knew it was fun to be surrounded by art and then to have the server tell us about the signature suns
      But later I realized it was a gift to have the room all alone and have dozens of paintings surround us! Kind of stiff you can’t plan but god gifts us (and ameliorates the negatives )

  21. I have never heard of Jean Claude Roy, but his suns are definitely one of a kind. Love that winter sunlight and the sunset painting with the green lake too. There is something alien to it.

  22. I’m very far behind here in Reader Yvette, so much so that we’re almost out of August and into September for goodness sake. In conjunction with your hint at Fall approaching, I also saw colorful mums sitting in rows on wooden stands outside the store. I bought mums once for around the yard and planted them the weekend I bought them. A torrential rainstorm a few days later left them with “wet feet” and then root rot did them in. Now I just admire other people’s mums and call it done. I like the Chihuly reeds photos.

      – sometimes I will get a few containers but it varies each year!

      1. Hi Yvette – I now like the mums better in containers for one season and done. Unless they are cushion mums, they tend to get too leggy.

        I didn’t make much progress tonight in Reader. We have some stormy weather tomorrow night, so I was hoping to get caught up – like you said, catching up is sometimes just impossible to do sometimes.

        2. Yvette – they get too leggy and then they go. I’ve not had mums in a while in the backyard. I once had some yellow mums that I had to tie back as they were falling over, so I got rid of them.
          If I get caught up, it is later in the week, because of my Monday/Wednesday posting schedule and comments. But right now. I am still about five or six days behind in Reader. We had another storm last night, so I shut off my computer fairly early. Last week I had the posts with the Sandhill Cranes … that was exciting for me to see them. They are not usually around here. Just passin’ thru I guess?
