Last on the Card (3JUNE2022)

Good Morning,

Here is my “last on the card” for Bushboy’s challenge.

We took a short walk through the local cornfields

 

There was a giant “lamb’s ear” plant along the path. I think it was lamb’s ear (Stachys byzantina, also known as woolly hedgenettle) – but not sure?

The last part of the walk was through the trees.

    1. Hi aletta – the trail in the trees is an official walking trail and someone even marked some of the dangerous roots (that stick out) with a bit of bright orange spray paint.

        1. Hi – I think it might actually protect the roots – the bit of color allows walkers to step over the roots (and not trip on them) so I think it is a good thing

        3. The only other time I hiked around the orange spray painted roots was after I was sick in November and the light orange on te roots helped my walk so much- I was grateful for the markings

Hi – the walk was short but did refresh – and it actually led to talking about how “pumped up” corn crops are these days – because I guess “knee high by July” used to be the normal growth and now with All the growth stuff (not sure if it is all bad that they use but I am against the GMO) and now the crops are chest high by May??

    1. Hi Terri – is your lamb’s ear so tall? I have only seen it small and grew some many years ago – it was easy and did well but never grew that tall

    1. Yeah-
      The hubs is goofball for sure – he has his serious moments but for the most part I think he has been wired with an innate cheery side – lol –
      And I liked when I had lamb’s ears in my small garden – for that texture and how they changed so much when it would rain

        I’ve never experienced lamb’s ear in the rain. Now I’ll have to try to to see what they’re like. 🙂

          He is not perfect (none is eh?) but we sure are compatible – and you know – sometimes I still chuckle about how the things his ex wife complained about are things I wanted in a man! Hahah – we’ve been married 26 years now and I really think it is all about compatibility and syncing interests – as well as growing together and not spending months traveling solo — I know some couples “do okay” with one of them away more than half the time – but I am really glad that was not something we had to deal
          With….
          – and now I am wondering if your hubs does the martial arts with you?

        2. Hubby did Taekwondo when he was younger, so he is still conversant when we talk about it with him. The JJ not so much.
          And glad you and Hubby are great together. 🙂 Mine and I do alright too. 😉

        4. Yes. He finds the JJ rather interesting, though he’s not interested in learning it himself. He may start over with TKD when our son is old enough to join. That would be a lot of fun for the two of them. I train with the girls. Then it’s the boys’ turn. 🙂

        8. Ah, the Chex Mix. That was a long-standing thread for a while. If you ever had some free time, I think “Chex Mix” or “Chex Mix Guy” is a category on my side bar. You could get yourself caught up with all the silly, sordid, salty details. 🙂

  14. Your corn is pretty high for this time of year! You’ll be ready for sweet corn and corn mazes by Fourth of July instead of Labor Day like around here. Hubby looks like he is a discus thrower. 🙂

    1. 🌸Hi Linda – thanks for checking out this post – well we also talked about all the potential things that corn will be used for – like animal feed (sigh because some animals need grass and not corn) and then the liver scarring High Fructose Corn Syrup…😩

      And hubs does look kind of like that kind of thrower from the pics – the angle is weird – but his sports used to be basketball and soccer (Biking as a child) but I don’t think he ever had the physique for that kind of throwing (the pics might make it seem that way tho)

      1. I do read a lot about avoiding High Fructose Corn Syrup … sometimes it seems there is nothing safe to eat anymore. Sigh.

        I agree Yvette – it was the angle he was standing, or he looks like he is ready to dash off very quickly.
