Triptych in Photography (Lens-Artist Challenge #201)

Joining the Lems-Artist Challenge this week after a short pause from photo challenges.

Leya’s idea this week is to explore the triptych in photography.

Starting with a flower mosaic my son made in second grade… maybe third.

We recently changed a few things around the house. This included taking down a few pieces of art and a handful of photos (we have never been the type to have a lot of stuff on the walls and now want even less). This flower mosaic was in back of a door near a closet. It added a nice touch there.

The same week I took down the mosaic, bushboy shared a brilliant post for a “missing” theme –

bushboy had flowers with missing petals, wbushboy had flowers with missing petals, which reminded me of the flower art my son made.

Because did you notice that there is a petal missing from his flower? I didn’t notice right away – until one day I paused to enjoy it (a couple years after it was hanging, which reminded me that we sure can become blind to what hangs in our environment) and I marveled when I noticed the missing petal.
I looked to see if my son had added the petal to the ground. It wasn’t there….

it was gone with the wind.

Here is the mosaic out of the frame, which sure lets us feel the vibrant blue.

Next up, many followers know that I sometimes grab photos of fire hydrants and cones. I also like to capture construction workers (if I am a passenger in the car or out walking).

A little humor with the third photo of our men at work.

It looks like the guy in the middle is praying:

“Father God, we pray for this sidewalk and drain to come out sturdy and strong. Thank you, Lord, for going with our hands and the work that we do. May we work with our full effort and do it all for the glory of God – and thank you for employment — to have a job with flow and then to also enjoy the fruits of our labor. And please help us to endure this sweltering heat….” ☀️😊

  3. Thanks for the shout out and showing the mosaic Yvette 🙂 It is great. I can see why the petal is missing – to make room for the leaf. I am sure that bloke is praying that the job can be finished soon so he can get to the pub for a beer 😂

      And you are right – he might have squished the leaf if he forced another petal in there!

  4. awww love the picture your son did and the close ups. Hysterical that guy is probs hoping he won’t get run over. There are so many construction workers out there, it’s scary driving by. 💖 happy weekend!

    1. Hi! Good point about the construction worker more likely hoping he will not get run over.
      It is truly sad that they do get injured or killed – in the South Carolina rest areas they have a memorial list of fallen workers on the walls –

  7. I love the bright colours of your son’s mosaic. It’s very uplifting. It was good to see photos of men actually working. One day we passed a ‘men at work’ sign and all I could see was one man in hi-vis lying on top of a brick wall. 🙂 It would have made a good photo if Hub had agreed to stop. 😂

    1. Hi Norah – well your story reminds me that I miss at least one photo op a week – because the hubs won’t stop or I don’t want to make the big turnaround – I think I have missed some special photo ops but I guess it is what it is! Haha

          I just set up a thirty day strategy plan for some goals I have! Glad to have today to now prepare for the start of that plan tomorrow.

  8. I like your son’s artwork. The colors and theme are wonderful. Those workers seem like they were having a good time and hopefully, it made the hard, hot, dirty work go faster for them.

  9. Welcome back Yvette! Your son’s mosaic honestly shows real talent. Did he pursue it? And your workers are great. Perhaps they found it funny that someone wanted their photo!!!

    1. Hi Tina – they did see my camera and so yes, that might be why they were chuckling

      And my son did other art pieces – like a micro bead sea star (omg is it cool) and paintings – but art for us was more of an enrichment – I guess to keep it enjoyable (ha)
      And it feels good to be back – I missed the LA folks 📸📷

  15. Yvette, how funny you didn’t notice for all those years about the missing petal. I didn’t notice it at first glance, but would have thought it was obscured by the leaf. Perhaps your son ran out of yellow, having used a lot of yellow to make the sun. Our construction workers have to pray while on the job. I can’t tell you how many accidents we have, some fatal, because people don’t slow down or don’t see them. These are not incidents that happen when they work overnight … the overnight construction jobs usually have a temporary perimeter wall shielding them from danger – this is during the day.

      It is very sad that so many lose their life or get injured on the job – sigh – and prayers for them – because as cheesy as it sounds – we take for granted the highways and road care in this country – and those workers help keep things going and must be protected better.💛

      My son was (and is) resolute in knowing what he wants in his art. Like with the Mosaic –
      so long ago but do recall plenty of colored mosaic pieces for that art project and he was just done –

      I think the fact that he chose “four” petals might have had a sense of balance to him as well.
      He also has a painting of a boat – which is more like a huge barge – think it was 7th grade when he made it – and a year later I asked him if he wanted to add more to it
      And Linda – he gave me a mini lecture on how in his view, a painting that was made should be left alone — hahahaha
      He had some reasons about not changing it because if it was done then – it was done ?

      I still admire his contented approach for what feels like a completed piece or done to him!
      (some folks wrestle with the “final” Piece whether that is a painting – a book – or even a garden plot ….

Our roads are in terrible shape and our current governor ran on the premise she would “fix the dam_ roads!!” But they are not fixed, far from it and the four seasons and brutal Winter and Summer weather take their toll. We have a drawbridge that is up for two days now since the concrete swells in some portions of the bridge structure making it unsafe for vehicles to drive over it. It is raised constantly in the sailing season to accommodate Great Lakes freighters.

        That’s interesting about your son – well, he knows what is finished in his mind’s eye and there is no “do-over” for some things and that is the artist’s prerogative to leave it as is. Funny him giving you a lecture about his artwork. 🙂

        1. Hi Linda – yes yes yes – the roads are far from perfect (but still better here than in some countries) and I was shocked to learn that a huge highway (with many tolls) in our area was owned and maintained by a company in Spain! Huh?
          And also, there was such a bad pothole near Gaskins road that it cracked a rim on our car – we didn’t file a claim but ward some folks do this and sometimes get compensation?!
          But that pothole was “unfixed” for more than a month and I almost went there with a bag of concrete to pour a temporary fix – ugh!
          And interesting that the governor had the aim of fixing the roads as part of her campaign – I am not excusing any thing here – but the pandemic did throw everyone a huge curve ball and that did hinder some of her goals I am sure….

        2. There were people fixing potholes as they waited too long for “cold-patch crews” to fix them. There is a lot of tire and axle damage here. The roads, road rage, people disobeying stop signs/traffic signals and racing through, plus freeway shootings (we had another one today) are taking any pleasure out of driving anywhere. I am sure you are right about the pandemic wreaking havoc with her plans to fix the ____ roads. We are in desperate need of bodies to work at those jobs – many are still unemployed but not interested in that work.
