Hello readers, this week’s Lens-Artist theme is to share a special pace.
I am going with street shots from my hometown of Richmond, VA.
Let us start with some photos from 2019-2020.

Now we have a few Richmond photos from 2021:
HERE IS THE FOOTBRIDGE AT NIGHT
—
I thought I would wrap up this post and share two photos from the classroom – because teaching has been special for me in this special city (not a perfect city – but pleasant and I have a lot of memories here).
This first photo is from 2017. This was not that long ago, but it feels like it was decades ago!
Hi – wow – I will check out your post – and I remember when we had the UCI races here – there was such a buzz – and then there is still some cycling street art from when that was going on.
I saw you featured that cool
Shot of Grieg in your post!
In fact-
I am going to add the link you shared right in the post – because it was so comprehensive as you shared the race stuff – city highlights and lots of misc – really cool
Really love how you describe Richmond

“We spent a delightful morning at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, built around a number of very generous donated local collections, and explored the historic area of Carytown which has the finest examples of Victorian housing in the US. We ventured along W. Cary St littered with property porn which wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Surrey commuter belt.”
property porn was a new term for me and was quite fitting!!
Hi Anne! It took a while for me to call this place home – because moving around three times before we got here had me root bound. But we finally settled and appreciate it now.
Thanks for your comment
Hi! Thanks for making time for my blog as you make blog visits,
Cindy!
And not sure what happened to the comment – lost in space !
But I will be over to chat soon !
Xx
oh OF COURSE…. I make a point to visit you for sure.. I’m not sure as I was typing to you and the next minute I deleted you I think. See you soon again! 💖💖
Well I do hope you will make sure to try and connect the next time you are in the area! I think I mentioned this to you before? I know it is not everyone’s “thing to do” to meet blog connections – but the offer is there and I might just bring your a sandwich Cubano with no apologies
Hahaha
Hi! Thanks for the comment – and this location was not my first choice but I am limited in time this week and had to pick from images I have on hand! But glad I did choose these because I do love my hometown –
And nice to get to know you more through your hosting this week!
Take care
About those new ADIDAS pants, I wasn’t aware that the motif had changed. Which got me thinking that I cannot tell you the last time I saw anything ADIDAS, pants or shoes. I don’t know if it’s staying home more during the pandemic or the place where I live, but that company seems to have evaporated. And isn’t that interesting? Now, of course, I’ll be on the lookout for those three stripes.
Ally a thanks so much for your comment on the adidas -!!
Because I taught college for true last five plus years – I think I saw some trends and it was often a nice talking point with students!
For example – once we talked about how “champion” brand was coming back and threw how large the “puma” animal logo had become!
Had some students with the old buddy too adidas sneakers – do you remember those sneakers? Hard top toes and three stripes and laces tucked in?
And I am curious if you will see some adidas when the pandemic ends – but maybe not – might just be in my area – seems like Nike and under armor are huge – and Tommy Hilfiger seems popular!
Thanks again for choking in on that!
Hi, Yvette. These are wonderful street photos and great memories. I love the images with your students. You’re right–we can see how much you enjoyed teaching them. Kids know that. I’m sure they valued you and your classes.
Hi – thanks for the feedback Patti – the kids and many adults I have taught over the years have been a life highlight for me! I have been doing a little reflecting this week as I set up a personal website –
And really enjoyed the art in your post this week!
Fun post Yvette! Have been to Richmond several times but as always seeing it thru the eyes of someone who knows a city is far different from that of a visitor. Liked the way you zero’d in on the stripes (was that REALLY an accident to catch the guy in the striped pants?!), and could feel how much you loved teaching through those images.
Hi Tina! I am not sure if it was an accident – but I really didn’t notice the adidas stripes until later! I was doing a quick photo shoot on this corner (if you notice many of those first photos were on same street corner) and when I click away- I snap and go really fast and then often do not do anything with the images until way later! So there is a good chance that I did see the stripes – but on that day I took about 25 street shots in like ten minutes and got on my way….
V J – thanks so much and I did not know you had that in your background ((-and crazy because even after our interview this month it shows there is so much to know about a person))
And one thing I am extra grateful for is that I had the chance to teach across many settings and to different ages! Only recently did I realize how niche that is and how it is part of my life journey – and cheers to celebrating more of our unique pathways, eh?
Hope you have a nice week
Nice set! You thought, ” Nice stride”, I thought, ” nice legs!” 😀 I like the strips on the Adidas pants and the crosswalk too. It was nice to see you and your former students too.
These are great street shots Yvette. My favorite was the one with the leaves scattered about in December. That scene would be more reminiscent of late September/early October here in SE Michigan. Your college crowd look as happy as you are.
I liked that house you featured in that shot – I noticed the house as well as the people in the street. It reminded me of the house used for Mary Richards in the old “Mary Tyler Moore Show”.
Fun photos! I love that blue house in the first one. All my moms siblings live in Richmond. I think I was there once as a kid. Too long ago to remember it well, or at all, sadly.
Thanks so much Dan.
And hope to see you Thursday for a door post. I have art museum doors to feature and will see you and the door folks later this week.
take care
Yvette, I enjoyed seeing your post! I spent much of my life in Virginia and visited Richmond a few times long ago. So much history there!! It was also interesting to see the pictures of you with your students and read a little about them. You obviously loved teaching and I’m sure your students learned a lot and loved being around you!
Hi / I really did enjoy teaching and still have years of it ahead of me / which I look forward to / and am grateful to have had a varied path over the years – I just met a lady at yoga who was an elementary teacher for more than 30 years and 20 with same school! I admire her consistency and it was different from mine – but we shared a teacher’s heart and outlook!
“Ruffled feathers and endless squawking over a minor difficulty is typical of a crow’s life. I lean back on the counter and realize that could be my line….”
I visited Richmond in September 2015, largely to watch the UCI road racing World Championships. It’s a rather pleasant spot. https://viewfromtheback.com/2015/10/01/postcard-from-richmond-va/
