One of my favorite parts about Christmas is definitely the lights. This recent photo came to mind when I saw the theme for this week.
Photo: Shortpump Mall ~ Richmond, VA ~ 2021
__
The next three images (from Virginia Beach, VA 2021) reminded me of certain bloggers. These displays light up at night, but the day view shows us the art, railings, and bows.
Photo: Today is Wednesday and I do not have enough for a “What to Wear Wednesday” post, but this dress really had us chuckle. I am not sure if I like it – but the old school bows made me smile. This dress also made me think of Ana (as many dresses do). Also, seeing an employee wear a version of this dress was fun (notice her dress has the sleeves). Do you like this “old school bow” holiday dress?
***
Photo: My hubs and I on Monday night at D’s house. I wanted to share this photo because later I realized that the lights above us seem like a crown – lol – and it might fit with the #light up the night theme.
__
Photo: We are not humbug here at Priorhouse, but our family is only a LITTLE BIT into Christmas – but we will not judge folks who go big. :)****
Hope you have a Merry Christmas
Also, be sure to drop on by again soon because in my next post, I am looking forward to featuring an interview with author Annika Perry.

Love your crown Yvette. Great Christmas lights. Have a wonderful Christmas as best you can. I am not in a Christmas mood but will have a go anyway. bb x
I’d like the sleeveless version of the bow dress (without the added bows on the skirt part). 😀
Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday.
See you next week for Annika’s interview!
What a WONDERFUL post!! The first photo is so pretty and then that Xmas dress with the bows made me giggle. I absolutely Love the photo of you and hubby 💜 with the lighted “almost” crown. I’ve been a tiny bit stressed here this last week, but am enjoying this holiday season despite the little bit of stress. I want to write one more post by or before end of year too reflect on 2021. I honestly can’t believe it’s almost 2022, so CRAZY!! Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! 💞☃️🎄❤️
Thanks Diane – I hope you are able to get your last post in before the year ends /!and glad to share a smile with the funky dress – seems like something we’d make if all stores were closed and we had to make do
🎄🎄🎄😊
What a wonderful post to read, Yvette, with your links to bloggers who remind you of certain Christmas scenes. That first pic of the fountain scene at the mall is stunning! I’m always glad when you join in with Sunday Stills when possible. I adore the pic of you and your hubby and the crown is a fun surprise! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pic of you, so now I feel I know you better 🙂 Cheers to a Merry Christmas and a safe start to your 2022! I’ll be sure to read your next interview with Annika!
It’s just after 5 in the morning and I can’t sleep. Isn’t that what blogs are for? Big day ahead- flight to the UK and a host of worrying possibilities. Much easier to hide out here and wish you merry Christmas, Yvette! Have a good one!
I adore that bow dress!!! Gives me inspiration for new Christmas fashion. Lovely photo with you and your husband.
Merry Christmas and hope you get to enjoy all the holiday lights out there. Something magical about them!
Hi / enjoying the lights very much and glad you like the dress – those bows remind me of the 80s even though I know they still sell them by the bag.
😊🎀💝
Lovely Christmas pictures. Surely you can make a Christmas dress ourself like that, sticking bows on your red or green dress. 🙂 Wishing you a happy Christmas together!
Wow Yvette… that’s some dress… so many bows 🙂 . It’s certainly not me, but it’s fun to see it on someone else, like those cute ugly Christmas sweaters (did that sound mean? 😀 ). My grandmother used to make those bows herself, but I don’t remember how (there was no bow she didn’t like, know how to make or want to pin in my hair, much to my dismay).
Merry Christmas to you and your family! ❤
Hi Ana
I should have looked to see how the bows were attached – and hopefully they had Velcro so you could wash or dry clean the dress – because not sure the bows could make it through ?
And pretty awesome that your grandmother was so good with bows – – and the hair bows are in a category of their own –
Thanks for the Xmas greetings and sending them to you also
🎄🎄🎄💚
Thanks for getting me in the mood Yvette with your beautiful pics. Love the one of you and your husband Queen!!! gorgeous. enjoy every minute my friend an happy holiday and break!💖
I love your festive photos. Thanks for sharing them. I found your blog through a comment you left on Donna’s Retirement Reflections. It’s nice to “meet” you.
Hahaha – that is a great question about the back and if it has bows / because I did not look at the back on the hanging dress or on the employee (if I go back I will see if they have any left and let you know)
Thanks for the comment
😊
Ha! A bit of a mish mash – and be over soon to catch up on your “rundowns” – looking forward to it.
In the meantime hope your Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is awesome😊
I love the sign at the end – ha ha. Your “crown” as well. The Christmas lights in these pictures are fabulous, especially the last blue tree. Two versions of a dress with bows is unique, just like the dress. It gives new meaning to the expression “putting a bow on it” doesn’t it? I remember those type of old-style bows. I just mentioned to a fellow blogger that my grandmother always saved the wrapping paper and bows … we’d be waiting to see her reaction to a present and she’d be carefully peeling off the paper and gingerly trying to remove these type of bows from the paper.
Hi Linda – your grandmother sounded so sweet – I know a few folks that saved the paper and the bow (so thrifty and frugal) and I still sometimes snatch up the tissue paper that is in good shape 🙂
Hi Yvette – my grandmother passed away in 1986, so the gift bags with the tissue paper inside were not a “thing” yet. And yes, she would open the present slowly to preserve wrapping and bows/ribbon. My mom said it was to tease us and make us wait to see her expression, but I think it was strictly being frugal, the mindset of living through the Depression era.
I bet it was for being frugal too – and last year when I watched Pride and Prejudice (my favorite movie adaptation is the 1980 one https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078672/ )
— the reason I like to watch it again each year – if possible – is because I often discover a line or ponder a scene in a new way – and this last year I noted when they talked about the value of a person having a sense of “economy” – I couldn’t find the exact quote – but it s close to a scene where the dad said it about the oldest daughter when she got married – he said with their iced personalities they would likely outspend their allowance each year and not know if anyone took advantage of them financially (something like that)—
There is a gift to being frugal – it does help life with a certain contendedness and mindfulness s- but too thrifty can become problematic – eh?
I never read the book nor saw the movie Yvette, but I have saved this link for the version you like. I have been compiling a list of movies and shows I’d like to catch up on once I am retired and will get cable or a streaming service. I have been watching a few things on Amazon Prime. Yes, frugal is good as long as you don’t let it get hold of you or become bitter for what you think you are missing in your miserliness.
Hi S – thanks for the Christmas greetings and now sending you a Happy New Year greeting back
🙂
and that photo was at the end of a very LONG day and night – whew.- and I think I dozed in the couch at one point – hahahah
Lovely pictures. I think the dress is cute. Seeing an employee wearing it is fun (and good advertising), but I would definitely want the sleeves. It is wintertime after all.
Hi same here – prefer to sleeves in winter – and maybe just on that dress in general – but I am not sure I would wear that – hmmm
Happy New Year and cheers to 2022
What a lovely festive post! I love how you picked out the details in your photos that reminded you of other bloggers 🙂 Not sure about the dress but it made me smile!
Oh my gosh, Yvette, that dress is killer cute especially with the socks and boots. This is a beautiful post from start to finish. I love all the Christmas decorations. I look forward to your interview. You do such good interviews. 🙂
Hi Marsha – thanks for the comment – and the dress had such a flashback (80s) feel to me
I also enjoy your interviews so much (as you know) and I plan to get caught up on them this month – good stuff there. Oh and Annika’s interview is live:
“Ruffled feathers and endless squawking over a minor difficulty is typical of a crow’s life. I lean back on the counter and realize that could be my line….”
Love your crown Yvette. Great Christmas lights. Have a wonderful Christmas as best you can. I am not in a Christmas mood but will have a go anyway. bb x
