Hello Readers,
Yesterday we had the chance to ride our bikes along part of the Capital Trail (in Richmond, VA) with some wonderful September weather. I was thinking of photo challenges and here are some photos to join in with the Lens-Artists theme of ‘Looking Up & Looking Down’ and #Thursday Doors

Next up, Old meets new.

***
The Capital Trail runs along part of the flood wall (along the James River) and in this next photo we are looking up at the large door to close off this area if the water rises too high.
Looking down, I stopped to grab a photo of the water and some old rocks

This next area allowed us to pause and look down to see part of Chapel Island
***
Bonus Picture
Looked up and saw the number 10 on this door on one of the new condos along the trail:
It reminded me (a little bit) of 10 Downing Street (the locale of the British Prime Minister since 1735)

It’s great to put those yellow lines around the poles to protect bikers. Looks like fun day.

Lovely photos, Yvette, as always. I just hope the occupants of that no.10 are more sensible than ours 😉

Thanks for the thought. No.10 is officially the PM’s residence but if they have children many use no.11 instead – it has a larger apartment. Useful information for anyone wanting to throw bricks through their windows, I think.

That looks like a wonderful bike trail, Yvette. I love riding trails like that, where you have to stop a few times to admire the scenery. I’ve seen backpacks and encampments like that, and it does make you feel sad and grateful. I love those massive steel doors in the picture under the bridge (I think).
Thanks for joining us – it’s always good to have you at Thursday Doors.

The old and the new are certainly great contrasts, Yvette. The last picture does look like 10 Downing Street.

Hi Cindy –
It was my
Longest bike ride of the year and I officially decided I want to slowly condition to maybe do the entire trail (50+) miles – maybe next year (big maybe)

Looks like a good bike ride. I have friends who want to made their home using shipping containers. Not sure whether that will happen or not but it’s an interesting idea.

Thanks for taking us along on your bike ride and showing us the gorgeous early September weather and a great mixture of old and new. I was moved by tour writings about coming across that backpack stashed the way it was. Very kind of you to say a short prayer then. Best, Babsje

I love walking and biking trails, Yvette, especially when they follow or stop by water. Your comments about the backpack are moving. It’s a sight that should make us reflect. It looks like you had a gorgeous day. I hope you get a bunch more before autumn sets in. 🙂

Walking and biking is keeping the news of the day from cluttering up your head … you are like me and so observant when you are out walking or biking. As to the backpack, two blocks away from me, in Memorial Park, homeless people sleep on the benches in the memorial area where the statutes and pavilion are. All their possessions in the world are contained in a tote back or backpack and that is usually their pillow – very sad.
