Thursday Doors St Augustine (6-24-2021)

Joining Thursday Doors today with photos from St Augustine, FL (2021)

Whenever we visit various parts of Florida, sampling key lime pie is always on the “to-do” list. So this first photo was taken because of the key lime pie shop on the right. However, later on, it was the door on the left – “34 1/2” – that seemed to have personality (hot stuff, baby). I wonder how 34 1/2 come about.

This next photo from St Augustine, FL shows us a sample of the old architecture. Check out the hardware on this door. In the photo, I also like the verticals of the three people with the other verticals in the photo.

Next up, lady in pink. I think this smiling employee was luring in customers with samples.

This last photo is my favorite only has a sliver of the entrance way, but I liked the vibe of this casual window shopper.

The “looking lady” has those hoop earrings, clutched purse, and casual stance.  I like the feel of the three window panes and sand-colored stucco with her teal shirt.  Then the detailed reflection in the window offer us this rich little moment in time. I wonder what she was thinking…. did a piece of jewelry bring her down memory lane, was she going in to buy something, gazing at a nice piece, or just passing time in this tourist town and maybe looking at someone working in the store? So fun to think about.

I hope you enjoyed the photos today. I will likely feature more doors from St Augustine, FL later on this year – and I also want to share about some of the food and the awesome live music 🎶we enjoyed spring 2021.

My sister and her husband had a place there during the very early 1990s, and this old city of St Augustine (1565) was one of my favorite places in Florida to visit. But not anymore.  Well – it is still a GREAT area, but it has become a jam-packed tourist trap – – with busy-busy Flagler college traffic — and it has a different vibe.  We ended our trip two days early “partly” because of this tourist trap vibe – and we might stop there for dinner sometime – but that is it.  However, St Augustine is still a great place to vist if you want to see what is considered to be the oldest city in the US. The folks are VERY welcoming throughout (not all tourist areas have nice folks to welcome you – and this town rates a 10 out of 10 for hospitality).

  1. I’ve been in St Augustine a few times, but always in July/August when it was way too hot for me. These are great photos. Those are done serious hoops.

    1. thanks for mentioning that – because you are so right – some tourist places do have a more optimal time time to visit 🙂

  2. I like that second door, Yvette, although the 1/2 on the first door is intriguing. I was in St. Augustine when I was quite small, so I don’t really remember it but I do know that the walls of the fort were made of something that “caught” any cannonballs shot at it, without breaking, which I think is pretty cool.

    1. Hi Janet – tanks for the feedaack and comment about the Fort – and yes, those fort walls are pretty cool and they have the dark bridge and many rooms to go inside and explore – I have not been inside the first since 2001.

  3. I’m a fool for bumper stickers on doors. I filled my door with them when I was a young pup, and then I brought that door with me for several moves. I think I still have that door somewhere. I’ll have to look.

    1. Oh wow – what a great idea to bring the door with you…. that was a good idea and it would be cool if you did still have it – please let me know

        1. That is pretty awesome – I saw a car earlier today and it had the many stickers on the back

No pressure but we really need to maybe see your door amigo (I still have the fire hydrant waiting in a folder)

  4. I would be enticed to visit the shop with samples… usually costs me, though, when I wander in to see all the treats inside. The lady in pink is my favorite, but I also like the photo of the people walking under that large balcony.

    1. Thanks for adding your take on the street shots – and I can imagine you enjoying some treats — often the nice part of traveling is enjoying this and that!

  5. I enjoyed your photographs of doors in St Augustine. Interestingly enough, my post this week was about St Augustine Abbey in Canterbury. It is amazing how many towns and cities all over the world have the same names.

    1. That is a great coincidence and I look forward to checking out your post

  6. Interesting that the address is 34 1/2 – I’m curious about that too Yvette. The woman’s platform sandals (or espadrilles?) in hot pink match her dress – maybe her samples were pink as well? I was trying to see that. I wonder about the window shopper too. She sure looks engrossed in what she sees and it’s not just her reflection. 🙂 I like the trip down memory lane idea as well.

    1. Thanks Linda – I enjoyed your comment and I wish I took more photos of the lady in pink because I am curious about what is in her plate too??

      1. I thought it looked flat, like cookies Yvette – yes, you could have zoomed in. Oh well. I remember those platforms/espadrilles from the first time around. My parents said “Linda, you’re 5′ 9″ tall – why do you want to look taller?”

        1. Yeah I remember you sharing about shoes and platform ones at various times
Oh and I wondered if her plate had non food samples – not sure

  7. I break for key lime pie, hoop earings and snacks given by the pink lady as well Yvette.. The doors were great and I see why this was a favorite spot to visit. Looks like a great spot!
