Dots & Spots with Amy Cuddy Reminder to Stand Tall (#WQWWC)

The lens-artist theme is “dots and spots” and the weekly writing prompt is “healing” – this post addresses both:
The spring leaf drop from this little, potted shrub looked like little dots on the ground.

My husband is growing strawberries.  I think this year he will harvest about 50 berries. Hahahah – he grew them more for the fun of it – and his focus is on tomatoes and cucumbers. I added a few pepper plants.  Anyhow, I know some folks that grow strawberries under their entire back deck – the berries thrive there.  In this photo, the dots from the seeds seem to fit the theme.

This next photo is from this week also. I had a little part kit with these paper fans. A few of them had spots and dots – we added some citrus essential oils to the paper and sure made a nice room freshener. I think small “easy crafts” like this are important because with so much technology – our human hands need to work with materials. And the citrus essential oils are supposed to clean the air and bring cheer (whereas mints wake us and lavender relaxes).

When out walking this week, we saw a lot of blooming honeysuckle – all emitting that potent (almost too floral) spring scent – the little dots at the end reminded me of the theme this week. I also went down memory lane for a moment. I once grew honey suckle along our back fence. TOO INVASIVE.  I was glad to see it GO.  It was invasive, fast-growing, and tangles. It started to weigh down the fence I share with a neighbor – and by the way – he was super cool when I apologized for the honeysuckle coil. Said “no worries” –  – Isn’t it nice when neighbors are so kind? It sure is – 🙂

Also saw these next daisy family flowers on the same walk.
Healing is the word for Marsha’s Wednesday challenge and Echinecea (cone flower) is good for healing properties. It can be especially good for chest colds, the flu, etc.  Some day, I want to make my own teas from flowers and herbs – and maybe I will start with echinacea and mint. Hmmmm

The pink Echinecea bloom jumped out at me like this – 🙂
It was the only pink one at the time.

This last photo, which so far is my favorite photo of the month, reminded me to stand tall!

This photo reminded me of Amy Cuddy and her advice to use power poses.
Amy Cuddy had to heal from a head injury after a car accident and her research has been used to help people recover but also find ways to feel more empowered by standing tall.

  1. I especially like the fan, Yvette. Body language/posture really does make a difference, for better of for worse. Strawberries sound so good right now and at least you know yours won’t have been sprayed. Strawberries and apples are always at the top of the list of fruits and veggies that are heavily pesticided.

    1. Hi Janet – you are spot on (ha) with the pesticides on strawberries and I think that is why my hubs originally wanted to grow a patch of two. It is sad that strawberries are so heavy on the pesticides. I am not a huge strawberry person. But it does amaze me how much flavor and taste they pack – I think I like blackberries more
      Thanks for the comment

    1. Hi JT
Can totally relate with this – and some of the gardening results seem to make no sense – like the folks we know that do very little and have the strawberries thrive – sigh
Parsley was something I could not grow for a few years and finally found a sweet spot for it

  2. Nothing like fresh strawberries. But peppers work nicely too. And I’ve recently come to like cucumbers for the first time, like ever. Strange huh?

    1. That is kinda strange and also very cool— do you ever grow them? I have a few times and it seemed like cucumber plants have two modes (just my experience) either thriving and producing or dying

        1. Well start with a few containers – easy and gives you a little feel for growing – I might make another post about it – because I just heard a radio dj mention she wanted tips for growing a gs as a starter – and it reminded me that others might want tips hmmmmmmm – I will link you if I write one soon

  4. Fabulous post, Yvette. I never knew what Echinecea looked like other than a gummy vitamin. The pink flower is much prettier. I’m with everyone else about favs, though. I love the fan. Thanks so much for participating in #WQWWC this week. It’s great to have you back. 🙂 Now I need to go find some dots and spots. 🙂 I won’t find any spots on my car show cars, that’s for sure! 🙂

    1. Hi Marsha – glad your car is spot free – hah and here in VA awe finally just had the yellow pollen go away – that was messy as it covered the car
And thanks for the feedback on the post – I just admit the flow of it was supposed to be different but the new WordPress block editor is so dumbed down in its use that it can be hard to move things and insert properly – I know they have Reasons for wanting everyone on the block editor – like software on hair end and whatnot – but change is hard and after thousands of posts with the classic editor – it became so second nature and was comfortable and enjoyable – and so I will keep trying the block editor for now – and watch my self talk along the way ….
Oh and I like how you have us all of those extra words form”healing” and I enjoyed your hearty post on this topic – be over soon.
      Have a nice day

      1. Thanks, Yvette. I am finally settling into WQWWC and enjoying writing about the topics. It’s getting some excellent participation and really deep and thoughtful posts like yours. Believe it or not, it’s become my best day except when I post an interview. Those almost always trump everything.

        1. Hi M
I am so glad the Wednesday quite challenge is turning out
And actually – I probably should promote it once more because it does ha e something very special about it – which is the variety of ways you invite responding – and I do like how you post the themes ahead of time –
And side note – looking forward to the interview with the friendly photo duo later this month – I have a mini interview coming with Amanda in June

        2. Oh, that’s great. Do you want me to post an announcement? That would be fun. thanks for the nice compliment. I am starting to enjoy it more and more. It’s my most popular post now, except for interviews, which is a surprise. We should have a chat sometime on Zoom or Face time. 🙂

  5. Round shoulders and a slump. Isn’t that a tall person problem? 😦 But I saw some wonderful sunflowers standing tall today. 🙂 🙂 Hope your week is going well.

    1. Hi Jo
Whew – I wish it was just a tall person problem – but so many folks are hunched over a computer or on a tech device that it is becoming a problem for children too. The chin down too much closes off the throat chakra and then all the energy in the body (meridians) can get more blocked (like a Lis Angeles freeway jam) and this post did not really come out the way I wanted (sigh – block editor) and I wanted to connect more about how those folks who need to heal – physically and want emotional boosts) need to watch body posture, facial expressions and of course the thoughts – because research supports the powerful connections – and before folks turn to drugs so quickly – some need to change their eating (some foods mess with he body and moods) and then consider body posture throughout the day.
Of course we all need to move more and that is where you model the power of walking! I truly admire your consistency with the walking and May we all find ways to do that more – as well as find other ways to move our body in this day and age that keeps us indoors too much

      1. Croquet and t’ai chi, Yvette! I can’t necessarily recommend my eating and drinking habits but I do make that body work to compensate 🤗💕

    1. Hi D- he has one very small barrel container for the strawberries so not too many this year – but other little treats are coming – like tomatoes and peppers

  6. I find myself sitting straight up in my chair now. I’m a computer chair slumper. I shall be thinking of your gorgeous photo of the flower standing tall.

    1. Hi Sue – i think so many of us can relate to how the chair and computer tone sneaks up on our posture
I have experimented with some of those posture corrector straps and found one that really works – I will link you if I get to post about it – but the one I have works so well and I had to get it back out this week – wear it for an hour twice a day
Anyhow – standing work stations also help and I think we need to see more of those as options

Be over to visit soon and hope your month is going well

  7. I didn’t know honeysuckle was so invasive. I’m rethinking planting sunflowers this year Yvette … next year for sure. Our May weather has been wacky, starting out very cold with frost advisories overnight for over a week, then a few days later this crazy hot spell. It’s too hot and too soon and we Michiganders have been advised by several prominent meteorologists that this will be a very hot and humid Summer, almost oppressive. I’ve not done any yardwork yet as we were having a rainy day today and yesterday and today climbing to near 90 – ugh. Hope it is nice for the long holiday to get caught up outside.

    1. Hi Linda – your choice on the sunflowers – we have plenty of time to do do this – but in my view – the weather you mentioned is perfect for the hearty sunflower – and they grow in so many soils and don’t require much – so maybe plant a package and keep expectations low!
That is what I am doing – but if you decide to wait – that sounds good to me
Have a good day and ttys

      1. I am late with getting anything as well Yvette. I am so behind here … we have had computer issues at work so got here late. I have not been to a nursery or to buy seeds. Then I decided it was going to be blazing hot this Summer, so deferred it. I will try next year for sure.

  8. Tell your husband I put about a dozen strawberry plants in one year. The first year you pick off all the flowers so the plants would get the energy to get established. I did but it made me crazy! The next year they spread like crazy and I pick about 25 quarts!

  9. That is something, to plant and grow something for the fun of it and it turns out so well. So far the strawberries look good…and hope they taste good too, Y. Maybe you’ll get to grow a few more soon. That pink Echinecea bloom sure looks pretty. So timely for warmer weather…enjoy 🙂
