Consider the Skyline (#SquareUp Day 17)

For today’s Square-Up post, we have skylines from Miami, FL 

Skyline with variations. Looked up to catch the sun setting. The strong rebar in the construction reminded me about how so much fortification goes on behind the scenes.  Much of this fortification and foundation work is not visibly in the finished product. The building will be finished and covered in stucco and paint – with many folks unaware of all the behind the scenes work. I think writing and photography can be like this too. Well anything really – but let’s use those two for this thought. We see a book with a cool cover and it reads effortlessly – but we might not see how much work went into that finished product. Or we see a photographer’s dozen photos and the viewing does not always reveal the hours of framing or multiple clicks that were taken to give us the selections. Anyhow, the glow in this photo – that looked so much prettier when I got home – well it added more – it reminded me that even with construction and maybe a lot of work in progress – there is much joy to be found. Joy in the journey.

PS – Quick shout out of congrats to the Buffalo Bills NFL team – they beat the Colts (27-24) on Saturday to make that their first playoff win in 25 years. Whew (A lot of work behind the scenes to prep for that, eh?)

  8. Everything has behind the scene activity. The big things going on can take months maybe years to complete.
    I’m thinking about the small everyday things. A neighbor bringing some cookies. (and countless other little things we all can relate to)

    They all take preparation and thought. And we should be thoughtful of those people behind the projects. Most we don’t know and can’t thank. But we can try to thank those we know.

    Oh, and the thought and time that goes on behind every WP post. All done behind the scene. LOL
    I am thankful for my husband who prepares meals (behind the scene in the kitchen) while I am creating my next post.

  9. The end consumers of any products or works do not always think what how much efforts that went in especially things that seem like every day things. You made me think of thoughts that I have recently about a product that looks simple but yet if you look closer there are clever designs behind it to make it useful. The designers must have put many hours or days thinking of what should be good functions the product should do to make sense and then thinking design approach to make that happens and then proving it to ensure it works as intended (this is also a hard part of all too).

    I have not followed NFL this year. Congrats to Buffalo Bills!

    1. Thanks YC – and wow – products so fit in here so well! I enjoyed how you wrote about it and maybe even using the gadget I am on right now I overlooked all of the work that went into the usefulness and all that.
      And even these changes on WordPress are usually connected to effectiveness and supposed to make it better (most times it does but sure would like spell check brought back as an option – how hard would it be to offer spell check for bloggers to use like it used to be the menu? Who decided auto correct would be enough to remove one little feature that was awesome – a little box that allowed us to run a check thru a post?? Sigh))

      1. Ah, that is a good point. I would like to have an option to have auto correct, option to scan the the entire page and flag errors once. Sometimes, auto correction is too cumbersome and attempts to offer things that I did not want. For now, I rather have an option to check when I need it too.

  11. Work behind the scenes is an understatement. Unfortunately when corners are cut, they are always visible over time, and sometime disastrous . Great skylines, Yvette, and always something to think about. 🙂

      1. And it’s so hard to remind myself not to do so with certain things. I get frustrated and impatient when they don’t go smoothly. My husband is much better, but I’m much more thorough and less impetuous than I used to be. Still a long way to go. Good thing I’m not designing bridges or high rises! 🙂

    As for the Bills, they are now ONE step away from the big game after beating the Ravens last night. What a fun team.

      1. With Mahomes’ status up in the air I’m thinking the Bills want him healthy so he can play. They feel they can beat anybody and I think they might be right.

  13. I love your first photo. The composition and color are spot on!! Regarding behind the scenes work I can personally relate. The majority of my career in healthcare was in a behind the scenes profession – the clinical laboratory. Most don’t know that 85% of diseases are diagnosed via the results from those tests. It’s often called the “hidden profession”.
