Art at Night (#Kindasquare Day 7)

Hello Readers

Here is Day Seven for #Kindasquares – yeah- I made one full week for this challenge – 😊

Today’s Square Photo: One-of–kind sculpture – “Chloe” at our local art museum Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA)

also at the VMFA – the unique glass Chihuly Reeds

The reflection for today is about finding local things to enjoy. I know we are all doing that now more because of the pandemic – but one thing that helped us while being displaced from moves and relocations – was to get busy enjoying the local art and community events.  And the photos today remind me how some art never gets old – and we can experience it in different ways at different times of day. Kind of like how Monet painted the same scene at different times of day to capture different light – well these sculptures at night had a different mood. I am glad the museum rotates art in certain areas and has changing exhibits – but some of the staples at a museum can be enjoyed again and again – with some freshness to be extracted if we just stay open for it –

Hooe you have a great rest of your day and hope you get a chance to hear some Van Halen 😉

  1. That is one enormous head, Yvette. I love Chihuly and have seen those reeds (or others like them) when he did an installation some years ago at the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens. What an amazing talent he it!

    1. Hi Janet – he really is a special artist
And this weekend I watched the Chihuly documentary about the Pilchuck school they started 50+ years ago in Seattle
It was so good – they pushed on trying ideas and staying true to only doing glass art (someone wanted to bring in weaving and sheep) and then they had to battle administrative forces versus the artist needs.
It was really good and made me appreciate Chihuly as a pioneer

Oh and the glass reeds at our local
Museum were on the first few permanent installations after years of traveling short term exhibits

  2. Fantastic – I love sculpture, and these are wonderful. I first saw Chihuly in Pittsburgh, always wonderful to see. Thank you much, and well done on a week of squares – do hope you are going to stay with us until day 31!

    1. Hi b
I just watched the documentary about Chihuly and the Pilchuck school in Seattle – so good! Chihuly and his artist friends really pushed on to start a camp there in the 1960s and now there is a campus and a school that made glass art what it is now
