Photos from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (#squareperspectives)

Hello Readers,

Have a few photos from the Pittsburgh, PA area to connect with Becky B’s Squares July Perspective Theme (linking here

1) This is not the best quality photo – the focus could be clearer – and isn’t this how human perspective can be – sometimes a little vague and we find ways to get the clarity?

2). From this view, we can feel the slight curve in the yellow Pittsburgh bridge.

….

3) A different perspective – and the small car gives us a feel for the size of this bridge
4. The row of home from Pennsylvania reminded me of an area in St Louis, MO. However, this street could be (as Joey would say) perhaps anywhere in the USA….

5) This photo, from Grandview Drive in Pittsburgh, is my feature photo for this week’s collection of “square perspectives.” The street moves away with that jagged turning. The old cobblestone whispers of the history of this once very prominent city. There is also a choppy, busy feel with the wires, sections, and variations in structures. There is a little harmony with three white cars and delicate clouds – but there is also so much going on in each quadrant it has a Henri Matisse vibe to me.

Let’s end with some generic perspective quotes – as reminders:

“If you want to hone accurate perspective – you need to start with small understandings and insights – in the same way a great oak starts with an acorn.”

“Worry less about “controlling” what happens in your life. Focus more on “using” what comes your way – with planning, yielding, and less demanding.”

Have a nice day

      1. It’s a fabulous city. We visited so many times, really miss it. Miss her more though as sadly she died last year

    1. Hi Restless Jo, I think you are right about the walking – and it has all that water which is right up your alley – or pathway – hah!

  1. Hi Yvette, some questions from my past visits … Is the incline still in operation? What happened the three rivers stadium? I believe the Pirates are somewhere else?

    1. Hi –
Nice to see you my friend –
And we were there during phase 1 of the reopening so the incline was not running but I guess it is still functional – they had two city workers in the building for the incline but everything was limited and likely still is.
Not sure about the stadium either –
I will be over to visit soon and wishing you a great day

    1. Ok Derrick – I will I e you credit for that quote then – hahah – and your motto would also need something like “enjoy friends , family, gardening, and good food to feed the soul” oh and “horses in the road” or something like that!

  2. Thanks for the photos. By this time, I would normally be getting ready to drive to Pittsburgh for a visit and a ballgame. Probably not this year. Driving on the steep cobblestone streets has always been interesting. I like the way you describe the image. It took me a minute to figure out what bridge that is (10th Street). I guess growing up there is one of the reasons I love bridges.

Take care, Yvette, and I hope you have a great weekend.

    1. Oh Dan – thanks for letting me know the bridge – I was wondering if it is that color because of the NFL team?
and after watching the documentary about the “men who built America” earlier this year – I must say that seeing parts of Pittsburg meant more to me. Seeing the buildings and structures made me wonder what it all
Looked like 100 years ago – and 150 Years ago
      – and you grew up in an absolutely beautiful city – sorry no ballgames yet – ;(

      1. I’m not sure if it was in the late 50s or the 60s, but they tore down the industrial buildings along the river and began to celebrate the river. When they created the part at the “Point” – they built a series of goldish buildings and renamed the area “The Golden Triangle” – That’s when they started painting the bridges that color.

All of the sports teams have black and gold uniforms – the NFL and NHL teams followed the Pirates. in that way.

    1. Hi Keith – you are so right – I think of the UK more when I think of cobblestone streets – more than PA – but I guess another reminder to the rich history of PA

  3. I welcome that final quote “Worry less about “controlling” what happens in your life. Focus more on “using” what comes your way – with planning, yielding, and less demanding.” Much needed at the moment, Thanks for this virtual visit to Pittsburgh. I very much enjoy that city and it has been over 20 years since my last visit.

    1. Hi T – we were there a couple months ago – when phase 1 of reopening allowed for a little travel but with distancing and masks still
