Hello Readers -to join in with Su’s Changing Seasons April challenge, I have some food items from April 2020 to share. Thanks to purple pumpernickel for inspiring me with her food post for the challenge here.
Let’s start with Chia Seed pudding.
This recipe is so easy — tastes delicious and it does not arrest the immune system (sugar free baby).
WE have tried a few different amounts of each item – so experiment to see what works for you.
Recipe for Chia Seed Pudding
- Approx. 1/2 cup Chia Seeds
- Approx. 1 and 1/3 cups of UNSWEETENED almond milk
- Add stevia to taste (we used the drops for this – and so about eight drops worked)
- mMix well, then chill for a few hours and enjoy

Happy to eat at your house, Yvette. And thank you for the chia recipe. I love these chia puds but had forgotten all about them. I like to add a drop or two of real vanilla essence. And I’ve made chocolate ones with raw cacao powder and cinamon, though must confess to the addition of maple syrup. Happy weekend to you.

Great foodie shots, Yvette, and nice to see chia seeds featuring in a recipe. I love them and use them a lot, but they’re often overlooked as a healthy ingredient. I’m just about to embark on some medieval outdoor cookery, so your pics have inspired me! Great quote from Mark Scission too – that’s one to remember! All the best, and hope you’re well. 🙂

A few years back – a lady who healed from a systemic infection said her naturopath had her eat at least a scoopful of chia seeds per day. This lady let the Seeds sit in her mouth until they softened and became mushy – might sound gross – but she said the digestive enzymes form the mouth interacted and maybe some sublingual activity – she also shared how the chia seeds are a superfood with all those micronutrients

That’s fascinating, Yvette, and I’ve heard they are classed as a superfood too. Yes, I do use them. They’re great in fruit smoothies, and I’ve had chia seed porridge, when you mix them with milk of your choice and warm it until it goes soft. Worth incorporating into the diet, definitely. 🙂

I can recommend it – its especially nice with a pear or apple chopped up and mixed into it. Enjoy! 🙂

I know so many folks who cannot stand the taste and I feel very fortunate that I like the taste – well if it is cooked right – and can’t do liver leftovers – has to be freshly cooked – so if I make a batch – I freeze some portions and use the air fryer to crisp it when want it again

Me too. I love them fresh, and like you said, cooked up right. I was the only kid on the block who looked forward to liver and onions. Spinach too.

A former student was told she could not Donta blood until she got her iron levels up.
She ate a cup of spinach every day for a week (as salad) and tested a week later and her iron was way better –
I like red meat – mmm – but it wasn’t until I ate more liver when I was able to get my own iron at good levels!
I ate it every day for about two weeks – a little hard at first – but I can do what health requires – and I was starting to chomp in ice again – which to me is how I know I need more iron!
After the two weeks – had it twice a week and now about once a week.
I also take digestive enzymes with meat meals and that allows more absorption

What kind of onions do you prefer with liver

I really haven’t put that much thought into the health benefits of it, but yes, I do love that it is beneficial to me as well. Always good when you can have favorite foods that are good for you.
Favorite onions with liver? Vidalia.

I’ll have to try this recipe as I have a big bag of unused chia seeds and now’s a great time to be baking/cooking. Tish’s variation sounds good. My husband would like that last photo of the watermelon, one of his favorite things. Toby Mac is one of my favorite things/people, so thanks for that link. I read chia seeds have lots of soluble fiber, so they are good for lowering cholesterol. The pudding sounds good. I will have to try it!

Hi Laurie – yes – the fiber is a bonus – and my hubs had some of this pudding after fasting for two days and it was not the best food to have to break a fast – long story – haha – but this makes a great dessert 🍮

I like “Eat like your life depends on it.” – words to live by. Another blogger mentions eating chia pudding for good health – I’ve never tried it before and will have to – this looks delicious. I remember many dinners of liver and bacon as a child. I was not found of it – I knew it was good for iron but didn’t know it was that healthy for you. You make it look tasty here. I like eggs and do eat yolks – good for eye health, I know that. Gee that fried eggs looks delicious – haven’t had one in years – I am boring and have hard-boiled eggs. You’ve made me hungry Yvette.

And hard boiled can be good too!
I guess liver can also be good for eyes.
And way back when I needed to really rebuild my body terrain – I had six liver capsules and a digestive enzyme with my morning coffee or tea.

I did not know there was a liver capsule – and I always wrinkled up my nose when we had liver with onions and bacon for dinner. My father liked chicken livers – something I detested, but my parents were strict and there no deviations from what was put on my plate. I didn’t eat it, there was no dessert. 🙂 (Great incentive.)

Yes – well Said Norah – but I think the quote is reminding us that some don’t eat like their life depends on it – they eat dead food – chemicals – or mindlessly eat food that has artificial ingredients – tons of sugar – bad oils that scar the liver (like canola oil) and so it is robbing health
So yeah – the quote is a little tongue in cheek – but it sure does bother me that so much corrupted food is allowed to be sold and we unknowingly consume

You’re right, Yvette. So much that is packaged as food is really empty calories.

Or worse than empty calories – it can harm health – like canola oil is bad bad bad
And sugar arrests the immune system
And not to rant – but anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer should be told about Staying way from the unholy trinity (my husband’s term- ha):
1) get off sugar
2) Get off bad oils
3) get away from grains – they cause inflammation / full of anti nutrients like lectins and phytates / and most are sprayed with chemical compounds and they turn to glucose when they hit the bloodstream – so bread 🍞 and grains covert to sugar – and this can pull from immunity and hurt the gut

This is an interesting post, Yvette. Lots going on in it. I think that pudding looks different and unique. I don’t eat liver or papaya.

Thank you for sharing your proportions for your chia pudding – I love this pudding but I’ve always made it approximately; so sometimes it comes out watery, sometimes firm. With your recipe in hand, I can hopefully make more consistent ones!

Well I am not sure all almond milk is the same and I wonder if the temperature of the almond milk at time of making it impacts how it comes out- – either way – ours is always different too – sometimes chunky –
Sometimes smoother and sometimes liquid on top –
But every

I guess even with a recipe, it varies depending on ingredients used. I usually use pistachio milk so that would be quite different from almond milk!

And yes – my son has introduced me to so many healthy things – fun when this kind of stuff comes full circle – his latest “try” was a facial cleaner made from
Buckthorn oil, honey, charcoal, and tea tree oil.
