This week, the Lens-Artist’s theme invites us to share photos from “at-home” mode.
Decided to share some Monday Morning Blooms.
We received these tulips from Tae and Amy – some of the best neighbors ever! We shared some mango salsa with them (some readers might recall the mango salsa posts) and then one day this month – these tulips were on our porch – with some snacks and a note. No physical contact – but lots of connections can still happen during this stay at home mode.
___
Not the best photo, but it is the view I get each morning – and I used to have two of these particular hanging flower pots – but shared one with a friend – because sometimes sharing is the absolute best thing to do 🙂 — I do still have some other hanging pots, which are filled with robust pink petunias – but each year I try to have at least one splash of red geranium somewhere – and this year it will be from this hanging gem – I think of a Monk episode (S7E6) that has red geraniums in it – also – did you know that red geranium essential oil is very good for female balance? It doesn’t smell the best – but years back I was adding some geranium essential oil to my blends – and my body really soaked it up. Not so much now – But cheers to red geraniums These little violas (aka – jumping jacks aka Johnny Jump-ups )- are a pleasant surprise to see emerge in the garden in early spring. About ten years ago (2009) I put in some extra flowers at a small school garden (when I taught art) and brought a snippet of these home. They took off. At one time they were all over – but this year we only had three little patches of violas – Still around and still bring a smile (like some of you readers out there – still around and still bringing your essence). Anyhow, when the violas emerged this year- I had a nice flashback to that 2009 time in my life and who I was back then. I was thIs highly energized art teacher – unleashing a faucet of creative ideas while Investing in children. Such a meaningful and enriching time for me. I was still available for my own children and family, but then also able to work part time — make a little money using skills…. — In hindsight, I realized I was tapping the art geyser from inside – that geyser that needed to be released – ***ahhh…..good times***The “at home” garden also has some herbs: basil, sage, oregano, and I think the center plant is some sort of pepper. I prefer to use a nice clay pot for herbs.

Last at-home photo to share: Niacin Flushing
The “stay at home” mode in spring 2020 has given me a chance to experiment more with niacin flushing. I worked up to taking one 500mg capsule, 3x a day. I will go back down to one capsule a day. I prefer the capsules – but the tablets from Whole Foods are “ok” if you cannot find capsules. The first time I tried a niacin flush -it freaked me out and I did not do another one for a whole year. Most people experience this initial reaction, but you get used to it and it eventually even calms…. Seriously, I now enjoy the flush. But I really do it for the health perks as it can remove pathogens, toxins, and heavy metals from the body – and it helps circulation and brain health. Dr. Hoffer was a pioneer in the 1950s with his niacin research and Dr. Saul (at Doctoryourself) has some helpful info. Just sharing for educational purposes. I made a niacin flush page HERE — and Dr Saul’s niacin flushing info here

Lovely photos, Yvette, but that niacin flushing sounds about as scary as injecting yourself with disinfectant – as recommended by some idiot or other 😉
Oh Clive, I am still so shocked that someone – esp in a position like that – would even suggest such a thing. However, my husband noted that in some circles it has led to good dialogue about the dangers of some additives in prescription medications – like many of them are synthetic and have serious side effects – that can kill. No vitamin has ever killed anyone.
And I was skeptical of vitamins for decades – until I needed them to restore my health and rebuild my bioterrain. And so if the niacin flushing sounds scary to you – well then surely it is not for you – but for some folks – it is crucial
I’m glad it works for you and I’m happy to accept that it has benefits. I have to be careful about taking vitamins as they might react with my prescription meds, but there are times when I wish I had a freer choice.
Those discussions haven’t reached our media, who continue to focus on the stupidity of what he said and disbelief in his defence that he was being sarcastic. Even if he was, anyone with two brain cells to rub together should be capable of seeing how damaging his words could potentially be – but then again, many of his supporters do seem, like him, to be deficient in that department. Our government is also full of liars and incompetents but even they haven’t come out with anything like that! He gets a passing reference in the post I’ll be publishing tomorrow – well merited, I think 😉
Hi T – I guess we all need different things at different times – and right now I am getting some vitamin D synthesized by sitting in afternoon sunshine – chilly but sunny 😎
Hi t – well
You might not ever need to.
Last year – a friend of mine (former colleague who is all
Into alternative health – she does the derma rolling with Ashley Black tools and stuff I have never heard of) well she tried niacin flushing just to try and she hated it (the first few times are the worse) and in 2015 I had a student share that she did it to pass a drug test and said it was scary.
So just a heads up if you do ever try it – the initial Few times are tough.
But getting back to my point – you seem super healthy and so you might not ever need to. In my case – I had all that dental work, Antibiotics too many times to count, high heavy metals, candidiasis, etc. – so it really helped Me and still does.
I almost did not share it via blog but one of my goals for 2020 is to share more health tips – to give back a little because I learned (And keep learning) so much froM those who make the effort to share online.
And if one person benefits from my adding in the niacin info – I will feel a sense of satisfaction –
Oh and my smile post is almost read – toilet paper theme amigo

Hi again YC – I like how that herb photo came out / the sunlight was perfect that day and you are right about basil – so tasty

And I know niacin flushing might not be for everyone – but it has been a big part of my life spring 2020
Welcome back, Yvette, and thanks for bringing flowers with you. 🙂 I just re-potted all my indoor plants this morning (moved five of them, two quite large, from Illinois) and planted aloe and several lavender plants. Had to get it done this morning when it was still relatively cool, although I did it in the garage. 🙂
Oh congrats on getting trhe plants repotted – also glad there was a cooler time to get it done. Earlier this month I bought a small aloe plant – first time I ha e had one in years – love being able to access fresh aloe – oh and have some lavender in pots outdoors.
Thanks for sharing and still remembering those torch cactus blooms –
Never saw anything like them
The torch cactus flowers knocked my socks off, too!! I had a quite large aloe that I gave to our younger daughter, but my sister-in-law here gave me some pieces from one of theirs, so I’ll be able to have some more. They flower, too, if they get big enough. Mine are in pots right now, but may end up outdoors one of these days, as they grow outdoors here.
What beautiful surroundings you have! With a totally green thumb too – you have such nice blooms greeting you each morning. That red geranium is gorgeous. I did not know the oil had special qualities. Thanks for sharing that 🙂
Thanks for your comment – and I now have electric pink geraniums 😉
And side note – I was shocked a few years ago to discover how my body liked geranium essential oil
😊thanks Norah – and just saw (quickly) the awesome post on carrot ranch with those Norah nuggets and wisdom – I will be back later to check it out more
Thanks for the beautiful flower photos this morning! I love the reference to the episode of Monk – one of my favorite shows of all time! I’m sure I’ve seen all the episodes but I don’t remember one with geraniums. I’ll have to find that episode and watch it!
I will be back to share an episode photo
It is Mr Monk fall is love
And the lady he dances with in his bathrobe – well her immigrant mother has a tradition of placing
Red geraniums around and (spoiler) that was how they located her in the small village – the geraniums in the window box
Flowers are always a lovely surprise, Yvette. Interesting about the red geranium oil and female balance. I know very little about the niacin flush, except for a patient I used to see, and the flush was very apparent on her. Always keeping an open mind and of course, my body is always changing. I hope all is well and take care.
Hi Erika – how cool that one of your patients used to flush – I don’t see it very often – years ago I shad a student who had to take a supplement that made her flush – and in a few health circles I am in people share photos of their body while flushing – and this guy “m Joe” – had white patches amidst all the red (looks like sun burn) and I guess that was how it pushed stuff out.
I reached a point last week of having little to no flush – down to capsules a day- bother after meals – and this week a mild flush back again – it has been fun to experiment ((and I am extra careful – I promise))

Best way to get vitamin D 🙂 I never say never, but I’d have to know much more about before I’d try anything like the niacin flushing.
