Hello Readers, For the next three days, the Avian Friends book is available as a free e-book download here on Kindle (from 12-27- to 12-29)
For today’s post, I wanted to share some little details about the Avian Friends book
- Avian Friends is a book with 40 + poems and little vignettes about how the poem unfolded or connects to a topic.
- Avian Friends was a book that was “joy” to assemble. Some books are more work than others. For example, Lady by the River (here) was a lot of work . Yes, it was also a fun adventure and joy working with each author – but it was mix of work and fun. The second Priorhouse book, Conversate: Tips for Talking with Teens (here), was almost all work. Loved the outcome as the book was designed for small group counseling and is a good tool. But Avian Friends did not feel like work at all.
- Avian Friends was sparked by ideas from journal entries.
- As a counselor, parent, and educator, a life mission of mine is to share knowledge, encourage, and teach a bit. Avian friends gave me the chance to do all three as each poem connects to life situations, human connections, and personal development – but not in a heavy format.
- Each poem has a “behind the poem” section. I think this is the best part of the book. I know some “purists” would insist poems can easily stand alone. And while some poetry books should just hold the poems and leave the expounding for a study guide or something else, I think there are times when expounding is key. Also, I know that I enjoy poetry more when the author expounds a bit (and I read a poetry book over the holiday break and it had too many connections to classical music – the author shared a little bit at the end and that helped a little, but the poems seemed to target a very niche audience.
- Avian Friends has a white cover with black font – very plain cover- with the hope that the poems and behind the scenes sections would bring color to the reader. I invite you to download a free copy today.

Backyard birds, that’s exactly what I like painting, too. Amazing, you chose these books.
It’s interesting also, I touched up on consumerism in the last lifeschool post.
Anyway, I’d love to take this opportunity and give you big thank you for always commenting on my blog and staying in touch for quite a few years already.
Happy New Year and everything the best for you and your family!

Hi – i am glad to connect via blog and I actually still remember where I was when I first read your blog posts – I was coming back
From Williamsburg!
Also – it was a huge coincidence with the birds and consumerism connections !!

What wonderful works/projects! I didn’t know you had a book about how to talk with teens–that one would be particularly helpful for parents of teens:) Congratulations!

Same to you Yvette. Right now I am sitting in a very cold house – my furnace is out … they will not come to fix it until tomorrow morning. We’ve had such lovely warm (uncharacteristically warm weather for SE Michigan) and now it is cold tonight. Sigh. I hope 2020 is a better year – this has not been a stellar one, or decade for that matter. Cheers!
