STREET SHOTS HOLIDAY EDITION (2020 Countdown Day 23)

Hello Readers – For day 23 of the Countdown to 2020, I have some holiday street shots. 

 __

1) Met this cute girl at the post office last week. It was a short wait (whew) and she began showing me the cards she liked. Then she took down the squirrel card and I said, “I have a friend who would like that card.” And that would be Linda, my blog friend, who loves her squirrels (and birds, trees, people, etc.)
As noted, the squirrel card reminded me of Linda – the purple dandelion one reminded me of forthemo. And the other two apply to ALL of the bloggers that drop by to visit – THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing part of your social media time with Priorhouse blog – hugs your way.

 

This tree -made from rulers – made me think of blogger Dan at No Facilities. And coincidentally, Dan’s latest post – here – has a cool photo of a squirrel and bluejay going for a nut. Ah such fun timing.

2) Speaking of post office (previous photo) – I am still surprised to see certain neighborhoods with postal carriers that actually walk.

 

3) Met this jolly ol’ fellow (maybe Santa’s younger brother ?) because he was walking out with cash in his mouth. He was just preparing his money clip – and truly this was a flashback. When people do not use cash very much at all – we had a man with cash (in his mouth too) and then a money clip. Whoa. And side note – last year I heard a lady chuckle at someone who had a purse. The lady picked up her phone and said “everything I need is right here – even my credit card” – and isn’t that good for her – that her phone is all she needs for everything. But some of us – like me – still tote a purse around at times.
4) Saw them loading this enormous reindeer. Grabbed a few pics. ‘Tis the Season
5)Holiday time for some people is not all stressful. Some folks walk their dog and chat it up. Linked to PULL UP A SEAT
6) Feels like JOY to me
7) Also feels like JOY (and I wonder this lady’s story…)
8) This photo stood out to me because of the three legs making the triangle shape and I like the strong lines of the crosswalk. A bit of harmony here with this street shot.
9) The crosswalks and light to the right add something here – but what I was going for was the person – left- with their sugary drink from Starbucks. Tis the season for insulin spikes, increased inflammation, and pancreas working heavy duty. Oh wait, sugary treats are not just at the holidays anymore. Nope. People eat sugar (or carbs that convert to sugar) at almost every meal without realizing how bad this is for their body in the long run. Just sayin… 
10) Speaking of sugar, throwback pic from a few years ago – when my boys were still around to help deliver Xmas-eve sugar goodies. The last few years of sharing Christmas Eve treats has been tough for me – trying to figure out what to share as I get away from “only sweets” –  I do NOT want to be a sugar pusher – and do not want to necessarily be pushing alcohol either – (we gave some bottles of wine one year when we had a case to share) – but yet still want to share festive love and delicious snacks with my neighbors. Any suggestions? Keep you posted on what unfolds this year.
11) Holiday Shopping at the boutique. I liked the contrast in this photo: We have 2 ladies on left side with light building and they are about to enter the red door. Then, lady is in her stride on the right side – darker building and just gives a little snapshot in time.
12) Carrying a Christmas goody box – and check out the spray tan ad…
13). Looking down on those phones… I get it – yes! Phone time is a good way to pass the time – but check out this previous post (here) – about the need to “stop blocking of the throat chakra” – so let’s remember to LIFT OUR HEAD MORE – ALLOW ENERGY TO FLOW BETTER, AND BE KINDER TO OUR NECK. 
14) This is actually two pics combined. A little out of focus, but something about this street shot appealed to me. So here it is – the last photo for today’s countdown post. 🙂

  1. I Love the street shots, and the squirrel poster. And, I worked my way through college working for the Post Office and I occasionally had t walk a route. Our mailman parks at the ends of the street, but walks down and then back to his truck. Thanks for the shout out!

    1. Hi dan – that is a good idea for your mailman to walk back to his truck – and I am amazed we still have mail delivered to our door – thought it would go away but now everything is getting delivered – and even groceries are cheap to have brought right to the door…

  2. Lovely gallery of shots Yvette. I used to bake sweet treats to share at Xmas, but no longer. Partly as my son is now an adult, our recipients’ demographic has changed, but mainly I pretty much don’t buy or use sugar. This year I’m giving little jars of rosemary salt and bottles of tarragon vinegar with herbs from my garden.

    1. Thanks so much for reading that part and offering a tip. It reminds me we do have cubes of pesto in the freezer – wrapped all well and that might go well with the right something else. But your salt and vinegar are items that are custom and also give life … and can be proud to

      Anyhow – I just scored a sale on these apple pies no sugar added – taste great – my friend told me about them and trust his opinion – and while there – had dark individually wrapped far chocolate squares – – ((some folks will
      Only eat stuff already wrapped)) so I am

  3. That Christmas tree rules! 😉 SP, what happens when that lady sets her phone down for a second to use her hands and forgets to pick it back up again? Her driver’s license, credit cards, etc., etc. are all gone? I own a phone, I do not want to be owned by one… (I HATE if my phone makes a noise or gives a notice when it is not a real person trying to contact me – the phone does not own me!) (Rant done 😉 ) Nice street photos, as usual 🙂

      Anyhow – enjoyed your rant – and glad your phone does not own you. I have been turning mine off more and more .
      And yeah – I guess if she did forget to pick it up she would have a huge loss – or if it was snatched – I had someone try to grab my phone in Atlanta – but I was holding it up high to take a photo and I know not to do that in certain areas! Anyhow – if they access a phone that is unlocked – well it could be a bug problem for folks who store cc and id – etc.
      Oh and of course you had a pun come so quickly –
      The maker of that tree has skills that really measure up! Lol

  4. That last shot kinda reminded me of some of the scenes in the Counting Crows video for Hanginaround, which has a joyous feel to it. Not Christmassy, but very relaxed.

  8. I really enjoyed seeing all of your pictures. It is nice that the wait at the post office was entertaining. Sometimes that line takes forever especially this time of year! Merry Christmas eve Eve ❤

  9. I’m giving a tea steeper to one friend who’s just starting with tea (I’ve already given her a teapot and cup and saucer.) I put together a wellness basket for another friend: essential oils, masks for face/hands/feet, teas from my own collection. I’ve made dark chocolate with chopped smoked almonds and sea salt and that’s delicious with no added sugar. I also like to make biscotti, although there might be a small bit of sugar. Anyway, those are my ideas. Also gift cards for spas or coffee shops.

    I like that ruler tree and I see why it made you think of Dan.

    1. Thanks so much Janet – those ideas are good ones – I might (big night( try making biscotti with cassava root – But not sure stevia will work and xylitol can give some folks GI tension.
      The good news is a friend told me about this sale at a health store with apple pies – no sugar added – so grabbed those and then they had (nicely priced) dark chocolate squares (high cocoa) and with those items I am halfway there….
      😉

      1. Depending on the recipe, you might only need a very small amount of sugar. Other than stevia, I prefer using sugar (in small amounts) because I know the effects of it. I don’t trust long-term effects of other sweeteners.

    2. Janet – thanks again – we sent a bag of biscotti in my step daughter’s box – and you were right – most are not a high sugar item. And our plates turned out well – but have a new idea for next year and my hubs said he’d help (he makes these coconut boys that are yummy – I will try and share the recipe soon with the chia pudding)
      Anyhow – next year – going to try and do fruit – nuts in the shells – and assorted chocolates – something like that.

      1. You can make dark chocolate candy with nuts and dried fruit and there will be almost no sugar except natural sugar from the fruit. Way to go with the biscotti!

  10. So many different shots. I thought it was fun that while the two guys were engaged in conversation the dog definitely noticed you.
    In our neighborhood the mail carriers always walk. In 33 years we have never had a grouchy one…maybe its the walking. We even had one who asked us to have our dog out because she liked to say hi to it. Those little cheerful encounters add so much to life.

      The joy of postal workers! And helps offset the reputation for “going postal” – years ago –
      When our children were little – one of our favorite Christmas movies was “Jingle All the Way” – Cheesy to see now but fun at the time – mad dash to get a last minute toy – anyhow that was the first time we explained to the kids what it meant to “go postal” – as in anger and upset – and then Kenny chesney has his song playing on that with “go coastal” on ya (ha ☀️) but that is a beautiful thing that in 33 years so much kindness – our favorite carrier is “Oliver” – he has become a friend 🎄

I liked all the street shots Yvette and agree that my favorites were the same as yours, but of course, had to chuckle over the squirrel card that you had previewed to me earlier this week and hopped onto Dan’s site as well – yes, one peanut will make critters do their very best to be the first one to get at it. That was quite a display of feathers by the jay and in the end he lost to that cute little gray squirrel 🙂

      1. Yes I enjoyed it – I see he comments on a lot of posts that I follow, so nice to read his work. I was tempted to follow him, but I have to step away a little in the new year – I am spending 12 hours a day online between work, social media and here …, I am going to whittle it down a little until the nicer weather.

It has come to that – I have indulged myself now for two years spending massive amounts of time walking, photographing then blogging about it to the extent that I’ve got nothing else done …I won’t take a blogging break, just less posts for a little while I try to restore some order in my life.
