What’s “On Display” this week for Amy’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #76?
With Christmas vibes in the air…. I have some holiday images.
~
1) This photo was taken some years ago, when we used to DISPLAY a big tree with ornaments (these days we have a small tabletop light-up tree and some colorful lights). I smiled to see this old photo because of the ornament, which was given to me by a sweet classmate — Christmas 1995. A homemade clay angel has lasted all these years.
__
2) Took this photo last night – hot off the press – two tiny trees on DISPLAY with that “less is more” vibe that does work at times. Do you agree? Guess it depends on the setting and the goal…3) A local business has an enormous tree on DISPLAY and after walking by it a few times, I decided to pause and enjoy it. This ornament stood out.4) Behind the ornament was a classic white poinsettia and plenty of pine. This reminded me of perspective and how we constantly shift our outlook – see what we see, and look beyond what we see.5) Took this photo a few weeks ago. The contrast of someone sleeping and killing time in a coffee shop compared to the Brinks truck stood out. I thought of the strong and secure bulletproof money truck – and then the vulnerable human being resting there. I thought of the money in transit – likely connected to thriving business. Compared to this person doing his own thing. Don’t know their story -but I want to always make sure I see everyone in my path – no one becomes an invisible DISPLAY – and also make sure I help when/if I can.6) Took this photo earlier this week. I know homelessness is something a lot of countries are working on – and some areas have more of a problem – but this photo reminds me that not everyone is on the same path. Some people have their bed on DISPLAY and I want to lift them up and pray – and this photo reminds me to appreciate what we have everyday.

I had this photo to add to my post and forgot it that day – was going to leave it off – but it does fit.
Nutcrackers on display – and cool hat! Contrast this image with the others in this post – and while this last person might have more materials – it does not necessarily mean more joy – hmmm
I agree… we run around frantically trying to make our December wishes come true, and too often we forget how lucky we are compared to others or that we should try and help if we can.
On the more cheerful side, I enjoyed those two ornaments. That old angel has character, and what a nice memory it is 🙂
Thanks Ana – and the place we store our ornaments is not insulated so the bin has endured the elements of weather – I need to maybe take better care of the ornaments and move them tithe insulated part.
😉
A special and thoughtful take on this – it is easy to forget in the stressful weeks before Christmas. We are lucky every day to have our own home to sleep in.
I love the tree with the soft glow of lights and the ornament … also the individual bulbs how you spotlighted. The homelessness picture … was this homeless persons or when they had a day across the U.S. dedicated to putting yourself into the homeless persons’ shoes. They have such an event annually in Detroit, where CEOs spend the light outside, under a box to call attention to the plight of homeless people. It was pretty cold the night they did it too.
Hi linda – I think these folks were the real Deal . But I have heard of some events where folks do it
To develop empathy and grow
And in 2007 ( or 2006 ish) two guys went from Denver CO to California in a homeless
Mode – they wrote a book about it called “Under the Overpass”
And one of he biggest takeaway that I recall — they said the folks who gave out meals in the park were a significant help to them-
We have a large company here in the Detroit area (I can’t think of their names right now), but they just did the overnight in a box a few weeks ago. I believe they do have a guard or someone who is standing watch over them as it is outside their building HQs which is not in a good part of Detroit. They each have a cardboard box and one woman exec described a sleepless night (despite their “sentry” watching over them) as it was windy and the box moved, the wind rustled through the cracks/corners and she heard every noise possible … much angst and not even the “real deal” … I think I remember that story though I never read it, but maybe hearing an interview or reading a synopsis of their story online. It took guts to do that and we have many people, even families, living under the overpasses in the Detroit area year ’round.
I hope you had very merry Christmas!
The ornament which is almost golden (it looks like it is) and with small silver or white frost-like touch-ups, they are my favorite! I have 4 of them, 2 white with silver and 2 gold or bronze. They look so beautiful that I was just a minute ago still admiring my trees and these elaborate ornaments.
Very beautiful and festive pictures.
I appreciate how you gently reminded us about the homeless crisis. It is a huge issue in my state they are offering bus tickets to reconnect those back with their love ones. I have mixed feelings about this, but it is a start. You may enjoy this read on homelessness https://reallifeofanmsw.com/2016/02/28/sleep-mafia-articles-of-a-career-journal/

Hey, some things have to “live” in the uninsulated place too, the ornaments just drew the short straw this time. 😉

Thank you YC – and the trees look a bit to smaller in the photo – I mean they are small but that angle makes them smaller –
