Upcoming What to Wear post: “Woodstock-Inspired Clothes” (later this month)
Here is today’s post – with the overall theme of mannequins:
Let’s start with a few window shots with men’s outfits.
1) Men’s Wear: I know these skinny pants with tapered legs are in. But I am not liking the look – saw a few nicely-dressed men this fall and some of them look like they are wearing “floods” – see it all the time!
2) Men’s Wear: the pants here are a bit longer – but I dod wonder when this tapered skinny leg will be out of fashion (until it comes round again) – and do you like the mixed prints with the jacket, tie and shirt?3) I laughed when I saw this set up – well I like the looks just fine – a cuff on the jean – classic sweater – and dress not bad – but chuckled because of the way someone added the hat to the mannequin with the dress. Hey – it is winter after all… ( I have seen those hats sell for $8 and $42).
4 – lLIKE THE TOP
5 – CONTRAST – BLUE GOWN IS FUN
6 -CONTRAST – RED SO VINTAGE – 1970’s??
7) RED DRESSES: This is my favorite photo from today’s “what to wear” post. I like all the dresses – but the one I would wear is on the hanger to the right – see it? I can’t and don’t wear red dresses (not my color for a few reasons, but I do have some red jackets – see the next photo). Oh – And notice the mannequins here? Heels and hairstyles included seamlessly- they sure have come a long way. 🙂 Hubs and I do not really “love” this recent photo of us -taken when we went to a wedding. A few folks were set up taking photos as people walked in the door to the ceremony – and the instant photos went right into a scrapbook. Great idea and not much work to be done later for the bride and groom. No need to file and sort. All done and ready for them. Anyhow, I am growing out my hair a little bit (not too long) and I have had some pretty good hair days – but the two times we had an event last month – had bad hair days for both. Not fair – Now a part of me really does not care at all (really) – but it is a society thing to look your best – or decent – right? And on this day – it was raining – that impacted the hair. Then, I grabbed an old hair gel (and I have a good variety – so ugh – why did I even have that old one around? and I did not have time to rewash the do) – I tossed the in the trash – put the hair in a French twist – which worked ok with hair limp and flat. But there was just a bad-hair feel the whole time.
8) From the Kate Spade line – The modified “little black dress” has simulated pearl waist and ruffled neck line. I think it is so-so.9) So many Black Dress options (thought of Ana with the many black dresses)
10a) Check out the left vintage dress (really old) and the brand new one on right. Reminds me that many styles don’t really change that much. A lot of fashion has a timeless vibe to it – don’t ya think? (And I would not wear either of these sequin dresses – not even on NewYear’s Eve – et tu?)10B) The newer dress from a distance – and some of my favorite door handles. 🙂

11) Window Displays are also a bit timeless. As noted earlier this year, I watched the the Mr. Selfridge series (masterpiece Theatre here) and appreciated window displays a lot more. Over on Firefly (here) they noted: “Back in the 1920s, window displays were new, and were treated as a sort of front shelf or storehouse for wares. Today, front window displays are essential for retailers who want to draw in customers who might not be familiar with their store.” And the window display can also provide ideas….and a bit of ART!

Another one from Florida (January 2019). This was taken after that “pick-up” yoga class we had – and In this photo, I liked the way the dress on the right coordinated with the lady on the left – her sneakers and clothes seem to match the black dress with that Latiny design.

With all this chat about formal wear – need to end with this SCREEN SHOT of the actor from the Capital One Commercial, which aired a lot this year.
Have you heard of Capital One’s cafe? Well in the upper photo is a part of the cafe sign at the Short Pump mall in Richmond, VA. I have not had a chance to go inside – but seeing it last month reminded of one of their commercials for the cafe. The man in the photo to the right is the actor in the commercial. The line is on the image because this man’s outfit has come up in conversations with “Intro to Business” students. We discussed this man’s outfit and talked about how intentional it was to not have a tie – but to still have the jacket and a bit of formality. Okay – some people are “anti” ties – ((and I was a tiny bit upset when Tom Brady did not wear a tie to the 50th Super Bowl event a few years ago – but I digress)) – anyhow, some folks just do NOT do ties. We also have a generation where millionaires and billionaires where jeans and hoodies to work. Just how it is – eh? But for some people – a formal look is still in (and Marcus Lemonis wears his jackets like they are a natural extension). Students and I discussed how the marketers probably thought long and hard about how to have someone dressy enough to appeal to the tie-wearing folks – but also had “no tie” for those who see it as “the man” or as yesterday’s attire. I think they nailed it. I like the look they came up with. Do you? The shirt is just barely open so we have formality – no chest hair or gold necklace (ha) – and the stiffness of the shirt has another touch of formal appeal – but still a bit informal without the actual tie (and side note – I am glad my boys enjoy throwing on a tie every now and then – I do NOT think the tie is yesterday’s attire – just think we have more options today – and that is a good thing. Anyhow, this photo also reminded me a little of Judah and the Lion’s “Suit and Jacket” song here. So let’s close with that.

Another really enjoyable post! I am with you in not being a fan of the tapered legs for menswear. It even sort of bothers me to see the jogger athletic wear and it does not seem very becoming for dress-wear unless the gentleman wants to showcase his socks and shoes. I also do not really care for mixing patterns in dress wear. Luckily, my career does not really require me to dress up often.

What’s funny is I have started to enjoy mixing patterns with my workout wear. I used to only wear black leggings, but I have slowly started getting more leggings with fun designs.
That is really cool – and ties into that beautifully-you theme you have going on. And not sure about you but I’ll be glad when the tops with “ten straps” in the back go out of style – do u know those?

So funny, I used to wear a tie to work all the time much to the “what” as it is quite hot here in Summer. Never do the tie all the way up though. Classy casual lol. I have a tie collection. Mainly add now-a-days paisley designs of the sixties and seventies from op-shops but are harder to find.
I don’t mind skinny jeans but don’t like baggy pants. Nice to see you as well Yvette
Delightful photos – I’m with you on the skinny jeans for guys, I’m not sure about them, but some guys look quite handsome in them. LOL on the shoes all-inclusive in the mannequin mold. Wow! The photo of you and your hubby represents the classic look – updos are my go-to too when the weather creates hair with attitude. I love red too – but have little of it in my closet for some odd reason? I see I need to catch up on your posts! See you soon – your plan for the count-down to the end of the year is so fun! My hubs just mentioned to me this week that he wants to go with more fitted jeans – he’s been into the relaxed fit for years. I think a guy who’s confident in the outfit makes whatever they put on look nice. Same for us gals, eh?! 😉 See you again soon!
I have many opinions about clothing. Having sewn for 50 years (I learned young, and don’t do so much anymore) I tend to pay attention to the details.
Like “skinny” jeans for women, especially those low riders designed to put a strong horizontal across one’s widest spot, I think there are very, very few who look good in the tapered trou. When we were watching The Late Show for a while I kept feeling like these really rich guys should be able to afford to get pants that fit. My son teaches young children and learned this lesson the embarrassing way: he squatted to get down to eye level with a three-year-old and…had to back out and hit up his sewing kit.
I’m not very fashion forward, but I think Kate Spade needed to choose either ruffles or pearls (I’d choose pearls). The classiness of a black dress is largely due to its simplicity.

and agree that one or the other with the dress – I sorta like ruffles added – but they are not me – for a while I had some “loft” shirts with the ruffle – loved how the basic tee could be enhanced with that look – softened and still casual – but never wore them feeling like me.
Guess it really is all about how we feel in an item – and look for course – but not labels 🙂

I enjoyed the tie/no tie part. I know someone who almost feels naked without a tie and that's why he's not at all a fan of casual wear. He finds whimsical tie patterns acceptable though (well, once in a while), which makes for some interesting outfits.

I am curious to see if you like it. I recall liking the story just fine – costumes and props were good- but I just remember seeing her face way too much – she smoked – and there were a lot of closeups – the only other time I saw someone’s face that “too much” was was with Julia Roberts role in Homecoming. It was like she hogged the limelight and we suffered (and the story sucked – in my humble opinion) – any time there is too much of one main character – it can be a strain
I don’t like “waiting for the floods pants” either Yvette, nor the tapered leg and the high waist with ankles showing looks like it belongs to a younger sibling. Not a good look in my opinion. That’s not a bad picture of you two – I have done the growing out bangs and layers over the years … it’s a pain and you are at the mercy of rain and humidity unfortunately. 🙂

and yes – at the mercy of weather can sometimes be combatted with the right products – and I forgot I could have used “dry shampoo” – but only had so much time as it was a 70 minute drive
I actually think more people call them “floods” now so I think my phrase is really archaic but I always thought it was an accurate phrase. I had on some “floods pants” a few weeks ago – I had been wearing them with high boots in the snow, then forgot and ventured out with the glaring gap and the walking shoes … definitely not a good look. 🙂 I don’t like the tapered/short pants and on top of it, I see men’s sports jackets, casual or otherwise, that fit very tight like they are sized wrong. Just my opinion. I have nothing against Nancy Pelosi and am not here to talk politics as I am Canadian and can’t vote, but I don’t like how her suit jacket looked yesterday. It was straining at that one-button closure like it was either a size too small or sized wrong. It detracted from what she was saying in my opinion. Again – no issues with NP, just the buttoned suit jacket which she has done before – it looks awkward.
I think you made a huge valid point with the word “distracting”
Because any time a speaker is in front of people that is the biggest issue! How will it come across and interact with the words! Because our hairstyle – glasses – and clothes send a message.
And I can see why her outfit was distracting –

And there is a joke we heard – when you see a man wearing an Uber right shirt you say “hey – your nephew called and wants his shirt back”
I was following the events of the day on Twitter and saw the jacket gaping right away. She is not heavy by any means, but for some reason she favors closing suit jackets and all I see is that stretched material and button straining and cannot get past it and focus on words … I can’t vote, so what happens in the election will happen or has happened so as an alien/green card holder, I do not believe I have the right to offer an opinion publicly. I never heard that saying re: the Uber. Our governor is pretty big on top and gave her first State of the State address and wore a skin-tight royal blue dress. She is a runner, but is not slim by any means and this dress … oh my. I saw the dress trending on Twitter and looked and had to gasp – what was she thinking? I have enjoyed sequins on party clothes but not from head to toe! As for the current style of the skinny jean, I’m afraid I’m a fan! Since I’ve lot 40 pounds this year, bring ’em on. Bring on anything that’s skinny! LOL! But I do not like the “flood pants.” I’m in the middle of growing out my short layers and I can only say HURRY UP! Happy weekend to you!

Nice to see you with your husband 🙂 I have unmanageable hair (since puberty) and have many more bad hair days than good hair days. It doesn’t do the same thing twice, unless you count the cowlicks. I have come to accept its wild wayward antics as part of my essence, and when I have a good hair day, it’s like a holiday.

I DO like mixed prints. They must be done right, but I am a fan.
Of all the red dresses, I like the one on the right as well. The sleeves look fun. I dig it.
No woolen caps with cocktail dresses. Firm no.
Gave up LBDs long ago, along with black anyclothesoraccessories — No more black. All done black. I find color more suitable for me.
Nice to see you with your husband 🙂 I have unmanageable hair (since puberty) and have many more bad hair days than good hair days. It doesn’t do the same thing twice, unless you count the cowlicks. I have come to accept its wild wayward antics as part of my essence, and when I have a good hair day, it’s like a holiday.
