Time to join in with Friday Fictioneers.
Here is the photo prompt:

Here is the fiction:
Genre: Realistic fiction
Word Count: 100
Title: Oh, Sheila!
.
Sheila seemed to spend money foolishly.
I’d shake my head and grumpily whisper, “Oh Sheila.”
Years passed and a veil lifted from my eyes.
Sheila wasn’t spending, she was investing: planting seeds and bringing beauty to the world.
Recently, she hired a local artist to transform an old tree stump. After learning she hired a lapidary artist who was unemployed for a year, I could understand why she kept asking him to add a few more carvings.
The artist hummed as he joyfully packed his materials and left with a hefty check.
My heart smiled and I whispered, “Oh Sheila!”
__
Author Question:
Have you invested in an artist lately? (local artist, author, photographer, musician, etc. )
Maybe it is time to do so…. (Sheila would want you to).
__
P.S. This fiction has nothing to do with the 1985 hit single “Oh Sheila” (here) but it is playing in my mind, “Oh…. oh, Sheila”

thanks – and did you know “Oh, Shelia” the song from 1985?

I Googled it – Yes, I know it but had totally forgotten it existed. I don’t know if I knew the name – I sometimes hear music as abstractions and not actual words… (I am an instrumentalist, so hear melody, harmony, rhythm and timbre).

(Reading through comments on Youtube, someone said they always thought it was Prince – me too, I thought it was Prince.)

it does sound like Prince (to some of us maybe) and I guess it is a band called Ready for the World.
Those white suits in the video crack me up.

Lovely, what a nice way to spread the wealth and encourage artists. If only there were more Sheila’s out there.

My last art purchase was… last November. Bought some fancy sketches for MIL. There’s a rant there, but not tonight, Sheila 😉

Look forward to the rant and I bet your MIL liked them a lot…0

She did NOT. She tried to thank me, but I didn’t buy it. She was befuddled. I immediately regretted it and wished I’d bought her something more commercial. Something shiny. Or a gd Thomas Kinkade. I will not rant. I will not.

I think this is a great advice… investing money with someone who find joy in her work and getting something beautiful at the same time.

Thanks for saying that for now I have a smile – and I knew I had to go somewhere with the “carving artist” here because of the chair and bag and his setup-
Nice pic to feature – so thank you

I love Sheila. Generous woman. And I swear, that group HAD to be one of Prince’s many protegés…

What a lovely story. Sheila did what she did in secret, not to gain accolades for herself. Very nice!

What a lovely idea – hire an artist, musician, author. Great heart-warming story and thank you for the music too – how I would have loved to hire the drummer. Fantastic.

thanks so much – esp for the comment on the song – it really was an after thought –
I used the name sheila because she was the character in my “letter S” fiction a few weeks ago – and the song might have been in my head tho
