For the “cover art” challenge – this photo from my summer garden stood out to me.
This crackled cement pot reminded about how as we age, we may get knicked-up and scratched, but we are also resilient and tough.
Also, when we take chances and try things, we may end up with even more dents, dings, and loss –
but I say it is worth it.
I say scratches and dings are the marks of a life well lived!
Life is too short to always play it safe, and so my cover art would be for a book that encourages people; a book that gives little tips for wellness and strength.
Because
Life is tough…
but so are you!
~~~
A LIFE WELL LIVED…
A life well lived is a precious gift
Of hope and strength and grace,
From someone who has made our world
A brighter, better place
It’s filled with moments, sweet and sad
With smiles and sometimes tears,
With friendships formed and good times shared
And laughter through the years.
A life well lived is a legacy
Of joy and pride and pleasure,
A living, lasting memory
Our grateful hearts we’ll treasure
(author unknown)
Live your life!
The flower pot is a wonderful metaphor for aging; and the dents and cracks are certainly worth it. After all, which pristine flower pot has had the good fortune of being a support system for beauty? 🙂
Oh yes, this is awesome. And so true. I especially like the part about always needing to play it safe. If you don’t take risks, you’ll never know. I’m all for the risks. I’m also one of those crazy people that embraces change. Supposedly change is really difficult for people. People don’t want to be taken out of their comfort zone. I love change. It means, new adventure, new experiences, new things to look forward to together with God.
Great post.
Hi Stacilys – I am glad that your experience so far with change has been so successful. I think this book would not necessarily minister to you – it would likely be for the person that was turned upside down when things took another twist. Or for the person who needs to stop rehearsing in their head only the loss and flop side of things – or for the person who is in the midst of the biggest struggle of their life – not knowing how to lean on God and maybe not even sure there is one. This book would be for the person who was also quick to take risks and embraced change – to find that the rug was pulled out from under them and all they feel is loss… and with their bruises (dents and cracks)- they don’t even know if they want to get back up – let alone how.
but seriously, I am glad you embrace change so much – and your living in Brazil is proof of your flexibility – but I have found that the reason change is hard for some people – is not always because they are stagnant, worried, or even resistant to new things; sometimes change is just hard because things are good the way they are – or we want them a certain way and so in our sometimes healthy “demandingness” we cannot see the value of different…
Also, many times a comfort zone can be a gift – sometimes regularity and consistency is just part of a pleasant path to be enjoyed as a gift from God. And like a plant that goes into root shock, sometimes changes require us to have vulnerable roots exposed – bare and dry getting parched in the sun – and this is neither easy nor fun – but sometimes occurs.
Change is tricky because I have also seen some people “change things” as a way of ongoing coping – instead of facing issues head on they change this or that – and change again – so I think it is surely a loaded topic with many angles – and it always comes down to context….
Also…. this book would only touch upon “change” a little – it would really be about wellness and helping people to remember this and that about ways to fortify! – because many times wellness is right there under our nose, we just cannot see it because of rehearsing loss, licking wounds instead of letting them toughen, habit or lifestyle issues, or not realizing that success is defined different for each of us – – yadda yadda 🙂
thx for your comment 🙂
“I think this book would not necessarily minister to you”.
–Oh, I wasn’t aware that it was the cover art to an actual book. Are you writing a book? If you do, and it is about wellness and helping people to remember ways this and to fortify, I would totally be into a book like that. Let me know if you do ok.
Oh yes, I understand that change can really be tough for people and all. I was just sharing from my own personal experience, which I believe is also because of my calling.
Thanks for the great response.
oh I got that – and you are right because some people REALLY just adapt and “do change” better than others – so I got that! 🙂 and it is just a fictional book, but hey, maybe there is something here – and Sylvia just left a note saying it should be… hm – oh – and thanks for coming back and have a great day
Thanks Amy – and I would rather live a short life that was full rather than live a long life that was boring and kept safe all the time, ya know? Even thought there are times to play it safe – chill — and maybe even raise the white flag to fortify a bit
Bravo to your words Yvette. As you gather I am all about getting out of the comfort zone. I spent many years in my earlier life trying to fit in a box. I am making up for lost time not only in physical adventures but in open thinking and self exploration. LOVE this post. Speaks to me in loud volume.
Thanks Sue – and yeah, people can’t be fully alive “trying to fit in a box” – then again, unless that is what makes them thrive – ❤ ❤ – and BTW- I am so curious to see the pairing of those Italian dishes….
Yvette, IF you know what my rounds consist of you would groan outloud!! LOL IF I miss you it is not a deliberate oversight. And I am relieved to hear you have extra spackle cause it just may come in handy. Whew! What a whirlwind lately. Just today I pulled out two really expensive wool sweaters from the washer (easy cycle) only to realize while they were waiting to be washed, something was eating them. They have holes in them! NOOOOOOO! Life has been like that lately. A lot of holes. I guess so that I can better see, or better replace what needs to be replaced. I dunno. One sweater is not mendable. The other one is. That’s life! Unbelievable!!! Better a sweater then my Heart. (holes that is) LOL (((HUGS))) PinkSki
